I found it hiking near Lethbridge, Alberta years ago, just found it again while going through old boxes. The wavy lines look kind of organic, but I don't know about the rest.

The waves look very regular to me, maybe something like this? https://au.grandado.com/products/plastic-garden-edging-fence-border-green-corrugated-landscape-tidy-lawn-divider-prevent-overgrowth-of-grass-newest?variant=UHJvZHVjdFZhcmlhbnQ6ND

Not sure how multiple layers would break in a cross section. Maybe sediment plus freezing could make it brittle?

It doesn’t look like any fossil I’ve seen before. But it’s certainly strange! I would take it to a university and see what they know.

If that crack goes all the way around. Give it a good wack with a hammer on the seam and it should pop open for you to show you whatever is hidden in the middle. (If there is a fossil in there). Often times it's just empty but you never know. If it looks like it contains something take it to a specialist instead of trying to clean it up yourself.

I don't want to hurt the squiggles :(

You won't. Just tap it to loosen it. Don't smash it to obliterate it. Also put on some protective eyewear and maybe gloves. Don't want ancient shards in your body

Fine! Maybe. My curiosity is greater than my attachment.

Yeah boi! Can you reply to me with a pic of what's inside so I don't miss it?

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I will! But it might be a while. I found it in a box when visiting my parents. Put it back in the box before I left.
