4:14 Cool. I was was uh was very worried that my Steam Deck wasn't going to turn on again. So, my understanding of what happened there is that the CMOS just needed to be cleared. Uh, apparently holding the volume up and the quick access menu button while plugging in and some like magic freaking voodoo uh makes it clear the CMOS.
You have to hold it for like 10 seconds or something.
Huh, is that a new shortcut, or did they get confused about the UEFI reset shortcut:
Hold down Volume Down+Power+⋯ ("Three Dots" button under the right touchpad) to reset the UEFI settings to their defaults (keep the two buttons other than Power held after the first blink of the LED: the LED will blink during the operation and stop once done, then release the buttons).
I've never heard of volume up+... as a functional shortcut before.
EDIT I found what it is, that button combo (followed by unplugging the Deck) forcibly puts the Deck into Battery Storage mode without being able to access the BIOS.
He then plugged it back in, exciting battery storage mode and booting the deck.
In the video he has no idea what combination of buttons actually worked. I feel dumber for watching the video.
He got it in the end though. I quoted the portion that worked.

He said it was the quick access button (QAM), which is the ". . ." button, not the select button. You can also see him pressing it in the video with his right thumb.
Also I finally found it, that button combo puts the Deck in battery storage mode.
Oh, I see it now. My bad. I missed him specifically showing that early in the video and later it looked like his left thumb was being used instead, but it's not.
I even remember looking at my own Steam Deck to see the icon on the "select" button, and it didn't ring a bell being called the quick access button. (Because it's not.)
In addition, I mixed up my looking at the button with him zooming in on that button in the video. I would have sworn he did that, and I was about to go take a screenshot of it, but he didn't. Stupid brain. [In my defense, it turns out I have a fever. 🤧]
Battery Storage Mode
This Steam page says you enter battery storage mode through the BIOS. It doesn't mention there being an additional hotkey for it. Where did you read that that's what this key combination does?
It apparently used to say it on Valve's official FAQ for the steam deck, but it's since been rewritten to only mention the bios method. I found a 4 year old reddit post where they directly quoted the older version of the page.
I also confirmed on my Steam Deck that it works, I was able to get the double blue led flash (which confirms you've entered battery storage mode on the OLED) by plugging the deck in, turning it off, holding vol+ and QAM for 10 seconds, and then unplugging the Deck (while still holding the buttons)
I don't want anyone to suffer I just didn't watch the video. Thanks for taking the hit, that's a true service.
God forbid people "suffer" by watching a completely voluntary video of someone trying to help others. Look, I didn't watch the video, but no matter how long it was it's got supposedly helpful information in it and we should be thankful someone's taking the time to post at all.
It's not their job to put it in a format you like, just move on and don't be an entitled ass about it. I'm sure your parents taught you if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.
I didn't watch it, I don't have time for that. These type of YouTube video fucking infuriate me, like unless you need to visually demonstrate something just write it out. And even then you could add pictures. It's just grubby time wasting and grasping for ad revenue.
Bruh, its a nine minute video of amateur troubleshooting done IRT. I had something happen to my deck recently that required a similar amount of time ignorant troubleshooting (although I've never seen a green light on my deck).
If it helps someone, then what's the harm in uploading it for others?
So you say you took a similar amount of time troubleshooting. Can you tell me why you think sharing knowledge about fixing something should require someone else to spend exactly the same amount of time watching you monologue about it?
Another user posted the critical part what the issue was and how it got fixed in 3 sentences! Making a 9 minute video out of it is just bizzare. If it really has to be a video you could do this in a minute or less and get straight to the point.
I'll start doing this whenever I see a solution to something.
"Oh no, my toilet is clogged. The first thing I'll do is watch it and start thinking about what I should do. Flush again? No, that might make it overflow.

20 minutes later: "I finally found the solution! I just need to use my toilet plunger."

This seems like something really odd to argue against posting.
I mean aside from it being a money grab and a waste of time, if he really wanted to help others why not write the solution in the details of the video? Because he doesn't care about helping people, he wants the views, and that kinda sums up most of the problems with the internet today

But there was no ads even the client lemmy uses. How did they profit off this video that doesn't even reach the level yt requires for monetization?
Honestly its common to get asked for summary on lemmy. Even for relatively short ones and on comms where the topic is semi whimsical.
I do agree that for many things a written form would be better.
But it doesn't make money with consumable diarrhea content. /s
My original 256gb LCD model didn't turn on a few times, maybe 3 times since launch. And I have no clue why. The only solution after trying a lot for me was, just leave it there for a week or so and then suddenly it turns on as if nothing was wrong. My theory is maybe something with the battery.
Yeah I've had to do that to my oled one
Here's how I did it: take a can of electronic contact cleaner, dribble it in the switch. You have to open up the system to really get it in there (remove your SD card first). Just a drop or two, work it in, repeat.
