General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I don't follow UK politics closely, or much at all... But that sounds like an incredibly stupid opinion

edit:

The only winners from a political coup in Westminster would be Labour’s enemies on the left and right

Ooh, so from a purely partisan position rather than for the good of the country, people, and world. Got it.

It's an opinion piece and the thing about opinion pieces is that it can be totally stupid.

For what it's worth from a party unity perspective it would be better if he went now, the closer it gets to the election the more damage it does to the party when he neverably does leave. He should only stay if they are confident he can make it through to the election. It's no chance of that happening.

If he gets replaced then there is quite a lot of time still before the next election for his successor to fix things. If they wait until 18 months before the election there won't be.

"I've seen this one before. It's a classic"

The only winners would be the populist parties of the right and left, and the nationalist fringe.

That's what the author said, what you were quoting was something which a subeditor has distilled from the text. You may still disagree but it's a lot more specific about who would benefit.

Simon Jenkins, who has argued that Ukraine should surrender land to Russia?
