The country is suffering from loss of power due to ongoing shelling and Trump wants Ukraine to hold an election. The US can barely pull of a fair election and inform the majority in peace times, yet he wants a country in the middle of a war to elect a new president. If a war started in the US before he had to step down, he'd put elections on hold.
