Soooo since Groening is in the files, and considering he fooled us with his "predictions", which are now clearly due to his connection, is it time to cancel him? And I will look for another avatar.

First of all Groening didn’t write much of The Simpsons. He hasn’t in a very long time.

Secondly, what’s the accusation exactly? Just that his name appears, or that it’s indicating something else?

[–] akmur@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago

that it appears

A fuck ton of randos are in the files. Keep in mind there's also irrelevant stuff in there too.

We need the context.

Someone communicating with Epstein does not automatically make them an abuser. I'm sure you've probably communicated with pedophiles before, whether you knew it or not.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think this is very intentional. Basically epstein wanted to get anyone of any fame in his sphere. He would then sorta feel them out. Oh hey this girl loves massage and is a great at massage. She would love to massage your feet. Initially is young but legal women but slowly make "conversation" and innuendo and see who goes into the inner circle. Read the stuff with the MIT professor that caused such a hubbub with stallman defending him. He was invited to this island paradise and he figured cool then you see he got really wierded out and got out of there. When it comes to epstein its going to come down to how long did they stick around. Was their meetings all one of party type things or did they regularly hang out with their friend. Did they communicate with him in wierd coded sounded messaging where they all seem to talk about the same innoucuous foods and drink or whatever. Its not hard but he definately created a lot of fog around his endeavour.

I don't understand what Epstein's intentions have to do with Groening's alleged involvement.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because he cast a wide net intentionally to obfuscate his activity. There are those who accepted an invitiation to this guy who throws great parties and knows a lot of people so you can make great connections. Then there are those who use wierd insider language in communications while regularly going to his much smaller and less public events. This is why I laid out how you know who is someone who met him and who is someone who is in the cabal. Epstein biggest mistake is inviting someone in who would go on the howard stern show and answer a question about how young is to young and answer 12.

Again, don't know what any of this has to do with Groening, specifically.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

I guess as much as this article. No its not time to cancel groening because nothing indicates he was deep in with epstein.

Understanding the mechanisms and dynamics of the system Epstein created is essential in seperating the idiots, from the criminals, from the pedos.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I understand the mechanisms and dynamics. What does any of that have to do with Groening?

[–] essell@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

With working out which one he is based off the evidence. You need context for evidence to make sense

[–] artyom@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

You need evidence to allege wrongdoing. You have none.

You seem to be approaching this from the point of view that every person Epstein ever met knew and supported what he was doing. Why?

Firstly I'm going to say I don't know the extent that groening is in the files.

With that said then the thing is if 'we' go after everybody in those files then we will get no one.
The zone has been flooded with shit and the reason for that is so we stop looking at other pieces of shit that are far, far worse. And there's going to be more floods for a long time until they have worn us down. And us going after everyone mentioned well just bring that weariness on quicker.

Go after the big fish only. I'm not saying let the little fish should get away scot free, I'm saying pick the battles for now. Go after tRUMP, musk etc and the people in that circle of corruption. Get a person in those circles to turn on the bigger fish.

In a perfect world then, yeah, every proven deviant in those files would hang then get reprieved just before death and then put in a guillotine for choppy choppy time. But we don't live in that perfect world.

Not "only", just first, but yes

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You're correct. I should've said go after the big fish now then get the little ones later.

But if the little ones turn on the bigger ones they'll get protection. Which, I admit, is not great but we've got to get the prominent deviants somehow.

He's also mentioned in Virginia Giuffre's book, where she mentions him in the context of the 2001 Billionaire's Dinner by John Brockman, which Epstein attended. As they left by jet, Groening hitched a ride with them.

CW: mentions of sexual abuse

[...]Matthew Groening hitched a ride with us on Epstein's jet. I'm not sure how the two had met, although Groening, too attended Brockman's dinners at times. I just recall that Epstein required me to massage Groening's feet, which were calloused and sweaty and in terrible shape. I did as I was told, as usual, tempering my disgust with the knowledge that I'd now met the genius who'd invented the dysfunctional family

Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie Simpson -- that had helped me survive my own family. Before we touched down, Groening kindly drew me two sketches that I asked him to sign for my little brother and dad. I never had any sexual contact with Groening. But in due time, Epstein would force me to have sex with at least two other people in Brockman's circle.

[–] wulrus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Well, he should then have said: "Thanks for the offer, but my feet are disgusting right now after a day in these new boots." or just "no, I'm good".

But I think it would be far-fetched to assume that the masseuse is a minor (she turned 18 that year), or that a well-known billionaire relies on slave labour for a simple massage. My assumption would be that she probably landed a dreamjob with half the work and twice the pay.

So accepting that massage is at worst general scumbag behaviour as we witness it on an average day in the city. To be clear, I would absolutely not have accepted it.

[–] akmur@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

terrible terrible

Matt Groening fooled us with his predicitions? The preditions are clearly from being connected to Epstein? Sure, Epstein could also see the future. Why not?

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Jon Stewart is also in the Epstein Files…

[–] Atom@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

This. Groening is mentioned as being asking about in a deposition, on a schedule to meet along with several people in a public place, and introduced as a friend to a Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

Epstein was rich and powerful. He knew a lot of famous people. Maybe there's more to come there, but nothing improper has presented on Groening thus far.

[–] snowdrop@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I can’t find it but I remember reading years ago him saying he was invited to some Epstein thing and it was creepy (as in girls/masseuses being suggestive or something like that) so he never went again. I believe he was on a flight log iirc

https://www.justice.gov/epstein

I don't think there's any specific document anyone is referring to. Just search for 'groening'. There are less than two full pages of files. The name is misspelled even in a court document as 'groning', so might wanna check that out too.

[–] arrrse@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow didnt know i could search the files like that. Thank you very much!

[–] adhd_traco@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Glad this is of use :)
