Yeah, no

I've never actually heard anyone complain about nutrek being too woke. I've heard MANY complaints that people say that, like this post, but I've never heard a single complaint

What I do hear ( and saw myself) is that nutrek is awfully written CGI drek made by people who self professed don't give a shit about star trek. THATS why we hate it.

Classic trek was fucking progressive, it had many progressive firsts. It wlused stories to make you think about progressive issues while nutrek just "gay good, we progressive"

God, nutrek suuuuucks

Wait until he sees the original series. And not even the ham fisted episode about the guys with the black and white faces

The problem isn't that it's "woke", the problem is that the storytelling in New Trek sucks. It's all just flashy effects and dumb characters. Old Trek had really interesting story lines that made you think, New Trek just doesn't have that same spark. It feels corporate and soulless, like someone tore the heart out of the franchise.

I don't like new Trek because stories suck.
You don't like new Trek because you're bigoted whinyass bitch.
We are not the same.

People kept telling me Discovery gets better. I pushed myself through season one. I lasted all of one episode in season two and just couldn't do it.

I honestly don't remember anything from the show other than some space tardigrade making the ship teleport.

It gets better... In the fifth and final season.

There were actors and characters I really liked (Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs top that list), but the stories... Fortunately, I think every NuTrek series is better than Discovery and I like them all in their own way. The biggest appreciation I have for Discovery is that it made the way for all the others that followed.

Except Section 31, that was pretty bad.

Jason Isaacs sounded familiar, he was in Soldier and Event Horizon! Love those movies. How did I remember his name from those? Haven't seen anything he's been in since those.

Yeah, not doing it. I've also tried watching other new trek shows and they are still just really bad writing.

Cries at Next Gen now being “old Trek”. Shit I’m old.

Back in my day, TNG-DS9-VOY were nuTrek.

I've seen Voyager called "Legacy Trek". Commenting from Sto'Vo'Kor.

[off topic?]

Saw a comment in another thread.

Buying spaghetti sauce, daughter asks 'who is Paul Newman?'

Mom : 'He was a really good looking actor. Kind of like Brad Pitt.'

Child : 'Who is brad Pitt?'

Heads up, in three more years the first Kelvin movie will be 20 years old!

Star Trek Beyond is already 10.

Good social commentary is rarely labeled as “woke” by bigoted people, and often flies under the radar despite its inherent wokeness.

A great example of this is the show Justified, and its subsequent reboot Justified: City Primeval.

The original show was incredibly well written and featured plenty of “woke” social commentary surrounding policing, but no one took issue with the social commentary because it was well written. It was a show with complex characters navigating complicated situations, and not some simplistic “good guy cops vs bad guys” story.

On the other hand, the reboot was not nearly as well written or produced (in general, not just wrt the social commentary), but one thing that was especially bad about it was that the social commentary was shoehorned into it so blatantly. It was pretty clearly inserted to pander to a specific audience, and every line of social commentary was pretty much universally phrasings that took you out of the show and left you thinking that such dialogue would never happen in real life. Even if the overall point of the commentary itself was sensible, the actual writing was such garbage that it detracted from the experience of watching the show.

Good social commentary doesnt get labeled as woke because its not hitting people over the head to make a point. Next Generation is filled with that type of quality social commentary. I dont know about new trek, but id imagine people get upset at the “wokeness” because it features the same type of garbage social commentary shoehorning that has become prevalent in a lot of media. Quality writing that makes points on social commentary in a more subversive and plot-centered way has long since become an artifact of the past

Lol

Not laughing, just telling everyone Data's child's name.

If that came out today, they would send death threats to the actors and creators of "Groom Trek".

Reminder that "woke media critique" is just a more sane predictive programming conspiracy theory, with some early figures like Davis Aurini and Paul Joseph Watson liking to put "they're cucking you" conspiracy theories into whatever writing issues they found on the first page of Google search in 2014.

I wish Data had been my parent
