The Whipple Federal Building has become both a staging ground for immigration agents and a hub for demonstrations against the crackdown in the Twin Cities.

Notice how it is local cops doing ICE's bidding

Since when are people expecting local cops to be allies?

[–] xtr0n@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The mayor and the governor say things that sound like they are outrages by ICE but I guess they can’t or won’t get the police to side with the law abiding residents who pay their checks.

Reminder: police protect property, not people. They are not your friend or savior.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 month ago

Typically right before they get fucked by them.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

I don't think anyone is expecting them to. They are probably hoping they will though. I don't even live there, but I have heard their leaders say things that sound like they would use the police to protect them. I don't know if they actually want to or not, and the police aren't cooperating, or if it was just words. I'm sure most people expect the police to do what they always do though regardless.

It makes me wonder why the coppers don't just gun down everyone else in their cities and "confiscate" the real estate and resources for themselves.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Probably because they’d have nothing to do with all the real estate and resources if they took it for themselves?

That’s like asking why the managers don’t just kill all the workers…who would do the work lol

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today -5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Simple. They can claim all the houses and sell the surplus for liquidity. Alternatively, they can rent out the space for visitors. This means they can all become millionaires within the week.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Sell them to who? Who will want to live somewhere the cops just slaughtered everyone lol

Being a millionaire means nothing if your currency turns into Zimbabwe money and it costs 50million dollars to buy a burger

You are quite literally not thinking this through at all

Aquaman might be in the market for a house.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today -3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think you underestimate how dumb the typical American is. Many will happily buy land in a city that got wiped out by their cops.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’m not sure you’re thinking at all

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today -4 points 1 month ago

Do you know how easy it is to scam Americans out of their hard earned money? It's very easy, because they're very gullible. And having actual real estate to sell makes it even easier.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 month ago

Bullies are cowards. If they kill off the easy prey, they're afraid the other pigs will kill them.

Do you hear the people sing?

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

And yet Trump and all the other rapists named in the epstein files roam free

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Did the protests escalate, or were they escalated. It makes a difference, do better journalists.

[–] webadict@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Agitators fired paintballs and were pepper spraying, according to some people that were in the area, and the cops did nothing about them.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

They escalated after the slamming.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The nytimes didn't even mention that the protests were throwing dildos at ICE? What lame ass reporting.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 month ago

Expired dildos. No point in letting ICE have fun.
