I'm ashamed of the US, its stupid, lazy, and gullible people, and the entire Republican party. This country has become a cancer on civilization that must be cured.

another reason one of the core objectives of the GOP is to diminish, discredit, demean, disqualify, silence women: so that nothing this woman says matters. or any woman. "what are you doing out of the kitchen"

yea, it's nuts that the party of "protect the children" is actually the party of "protect the pedophiles," but if that reality is a surprise to anyone, then they just haven't been paying attention at all

It's okay.

People haven't forgotten the genocide of indigenous populations that happened when the Americas were first colonized.

I don't think anybody will let them live this down either.

As a nation, we have had two indelible stains on our history that we can never erase - the genocide of the indigenous people on our hemisphere, and slavery.

Now we will have a third one - The Trump Era. We will have to wear it forever, just like Germany will always have to wear their Nazi Era.

america has nazi party, it never was dealt with, just hidden.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 8 hours ago

It's not so much that they are actual Nazis, it's just that MAGA and Nazi are the manifestation of the same ugly demographic slice that ALWAYS exists among humanity. Healthy societies keep that ugly slice of humanity under control in various ways, but now and then society weakens, and that ugly slice of humanity gets too much power, and because of who they are at their core, they cannot resist the opportunity to exploit and abuse that power.

It's not that MAGAs are really Nazis, it's that MAGAs and Nazis rose from the same source of bad humans. It's a nuance that many people don't understand.

There's also the crazy amount of foreign incursions, destabilisation and coups, TBF. Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen... and this is all post WW2 only. 😞

i had a prof in college that is still incensed that the govt did nothing for navajo people, he was navajo, and his attitude often translate in his anger when he is annoyed by students.

The US is a pedocracy.

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Duly noted.

I'm not really okay making (lack of) healthcare jokes/jabs at the US since you have little control of that (and it's really dark). Same for school shootings and weight (food deserts and all).

But electing a well-known pedophile (among many other negative qualities) by not only electoral, but popular vote as well? That one's on you.

[–] naught101@lemmy.world 11 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I mean.. If you can blame people for voting in trump, the healthcare and gun problems also could have been largely avoided with some better voting over the last several decades.

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Perhaps, yeah. But still, it just doesn't seem as clear.

[–] naught101@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

fair, it's less direct.
