Wing Commander was absolutely my favorite game franchise as a kid. Armada was my favorite, but Privateer was also fantastic. The first one had this branching structure, where you could fail some objectives but still complete the mission and that would lead to different endings, and it blew my mind. That franchise is why I played video games with the y axis inverted into the late aughts.

I bought WIng commander blind and loved it, I was irrationally unhappy I didn’t have a hand to control the joystick (if you know, you know. 2 was another level again and my computer struggled, the spirit cutscene slowed to a slideshow unfortunately which killed the impact a bit.

It was a while later when I walked into a store to see the opening cutscene for 3. I amazed and bought it straight away. I was unhappy with the spy reveal though, I loved that character and felt it wasted the them. The cutscenes were amazing for the time, I lost just to see the alternate cut scenes. If only they could’ve realised that vision in the movie.

4 was ok but I missed the kilrathi.

Always wanted to kill that dude, but then I’d get stranded. I think I usually got stuck at some point later but can’t remember where
