I'm not sure how people don't see these things as anti-ads. I wouldn't touch any of these companies with a 20 meter cattle prod.

I'm happy that creators get paid, sure, but if a company has to go out of their way to get someone to make ads for them, it doesn't inspire trust at all.

sadly, plenty of people fall for those and that's all the advertisers need.

This website analysed around 1 million videos, and found 13,232 brands. The one channel I watch, ended their sponsor with Huel, since it had lead in their drinks.

"this is a great segw⏩as you can see here..." Thank you SponsorBlock and SmartTube developers 😘

I feel like we've lost the plot a little bit. How is this a meme? How is it even a joke, or humorous in any way? It's just "you know how YouTube has become an ad-infested shithole? Here are all those ads, condensed, for you to look at again." I don't want to look at ads.

Huh, I think I see pcbway/jlcpcb and various 3D printer/laser cutter companies 90% of the time I'm watching a channel with sponsors.

[–] coriza@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

That says something about you.... and me.

[–] DiagonalHorse@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

When I get those it's pretty well fitting into the video though. The YouTuber will already be putting together a 3d printing or pcb project and the sponsorship seems to improve their overall product (more than doing it in house)

This feels like an ad.

Then support Nebula / Patreon and avoid sponsors via adblock.

Express VPN has ties to Mossad.

[–] Tenderizer78@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

As does Private Internet Access.

[–] orc_princess@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

That's crazy lol. Is there a VPN you trust? I'm broke but I might want one in the future

[–] Bronstein_Tardigrade@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

When I was looking, I boiled it down to Mulvad or Proton. I went with Proton because they were offering a sale at the time. FirefoxVPN is just a rebranded Mulvad. I've since heard that iVPN is fairly private, or as private as you can get in this day and age, but I know little about it.

Express is owned by Kape Technologies, who also own PIA, CyberGhost, and Intego (an antivirus software). Kape started by distributing malware for the Israeli government.

[–] orc_princess@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

Thanks for the writeup! I'll keep all of that in mind.

[–] privatepirate@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

Sorry for the late reply but I would follow what Privacy Guides says in this article: https://www.privacyguides.org/en/vpn/

I have ProtonVPN, but I am soon going to be switching to Mullvad as I find that they provide a better service and I like the company more.

[–] pineapple@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

If your broke I think checkout nymvpn It's an up and coming one but it is really cheap and seams have nothing going against it right now.

If you don't need port forwarding and you don't mind paying a bit extra, mullvad vpn still has the best reputation so far.

[–] Little8Lost@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Sooo: which of them should i activly avoid and which are okay?

[–] VeganCheesecake@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Curiosity Stream is fine if you are looking for a service that let's you pay to stream nature docs. The rest, I'd probably avoid. Some of the because they suck, others because there are better alternatives.

Edit: Commented thrice due to app issues.

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

All of them except Elgato maybe
