usually don’t think about alternate timelines much, but this in particular sticks with me. would the world really be better off, as I see several people (not here) say it would have

trump would've won in 2020

Thats a good point. A younger Trump could have actually gone for 3 terms huh....but that goes to much into WhatIF alt/history realms.

I think the world probably be better off if millions of people hadn't died and an uncountable number hadn't been disabled in various ways. I understand looking for silver linings to COVID (I've done it in the past too), but sometimes things are just bad and I think this is one of those times.

While it OBVIOUSLY would be better if it never happened. From my side I feel COVID is / was a radicalizing event for some people. Thats like the only single positive thing I could take from it. Basically the world got worse and some people took notice.

not getting into nebulous culture impact stuff but many millions of people would still be alive which seems good

[–] Florn@hexbear.net 8 points 17 hours ago

Also there wouldn't be an ongoing mass-disabling event

Things likely would not have declined as quickly as they have had been my take. Would the world be better off? Yeah I guess so, just because it would’ve taken longer to get to the point we’re at now

would the world really be better off

"Would the world really be better off if millions haven't died excruciating deaths and millions more aren't permanently disabled?"

COVID absolutely fucked up the kids and now they are all absolutely dumb as shit. So maybe a little less brain rot

I really don't see a difference before/after. The teens lacked initiative before and they lack it afterwards. What changed?
