Wu Yingjiao and Liu Hu, two independent journalists, were taken into custody by local police on 1 February 2026 on charges of “making false accusations” and “illegal business operations. Their detention followed the publication of an investigative report they co-authored on the Chinese social media WeChat on 29 January 2026, which reportedly exposed the corruption of Pu Fayou, the Party Secretary for Pujiang County, located in the province of Sichuan. The article has since been deleted from WeChat.

They were arrested on charges of 诬告陷害罪 and 非法经营罪 so maybe instead of presuming a nefarious plot it would make more sense to hold back with 不评价,等调查结果.

If you want "whataboutism" I can do that too by pointing out every western aligned government had deep ties to the Epstein pedophile cabal and they all feared and hated China.

So maybe you have bigger issues you should be dealing with. Worry about the sword through your neck before the one hanging on China's wall.

@QinShiHuangsShlong@hexbear.net

The whatabouter is you here.

Holding back with an assessment of the case and waiting for the results? The results will be published by the same party that holds them imprisoned, and these stories are well known in China.

The journalists who investigated the corruption are detained, while the official walks free. As the article also says, one of them has already been detained in 2013 for “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” - an euphemism for expressing an opinion against the party line - and for allegedly “fabricating and spreading rumours,” but was later released on bail after spending a year in detention - just for publishing the truth.

That's how being arrested works. The state detains you Investigates and then you are put on trial. What is your point with this?

Not to mention the purge/coup of the top military officials by Xi that happened recently in china

[–] QinShiHuangsShlong@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

A coup is when corrupt officials are investigated and punished.
