OOP: “My Dad lives in Arkansas. He has been feeding an outdoor cat for over a year. He wasn't sure she'd be able to survive this bad ice-storm, so he gently trapped her in the garage last week, to save her. She got blankets, a space-heater, and lots of food and cuddles. Now she doesn't want to go back outside.”

FTFY: A cat adopted your dad.

Can I live in OOP's garage too?

Cat distribution system works in bad weather too.

I noticed multiple posts on social media saying they were taking stray cats in during the freezing storm that the US just had. So many people don't seem to realize once you feed a cat one time, they aren't leaving.

You give me blankets, a space heater and food and I ain't goin' nowhere either tbh.

I would consider it a win, but I worry people after the snow storm are gonna be like "be free, kitty!" and not understand why it's living in their backyard for the rest of it's life.

I think all kitties should be adored indoor kitties, but a backyard kitty is better than a completely feral cat and a lonely uncatted person. For instance they'll probably do the storm refuge thing again, and feed it so it will kill fewer birds, and they'll enjoy time together even if it's not pettable.

I agree with your sentiment, but I do question whether being fed will reliability decrease the amount of kills a cat makes. I was under the impression that they might not eat their kills if they are fed, they will still kill.

I wonder whether people could reduce that by using wand toys to play with them and satisfy that urge to pounce, each time before feeding them.

You're correct - Cats will kill for the fun of it. Source: Have owned barn cats.

Yeah, I experienced this myself. Once the cat comes inside it doesn't leave. I love my little Tobi though!

Cat distribution system just works.

I wish our outdoor was like that; we tried to entice her in so she wouldn’t be out in the ice storm by herself but she wasn’t having it.

She does have a crawl space under the house though, and a little custom made shelter on our front porch that she enjoys at least.

She is free. So, she decided to stay warm. What are you gonna do?
