It's from a few promotional posts on Reddit, so it's users.
Every time I hear “censorship” cried in relation to piefed, I think of the same cries with Voat, another Reddit clone/refuge. It never compromised on that.
And it turned into a (now long dead) toxic wasteland. As that ethos smothered all the interesting niche communities.
IMO, the #1 Fediverse dev priority should be UX that discourages toxicity. That’s what will keep it alive. A militantly, forcibly “unbiased” UX is a quaint old internet ideal, yet it always seems to snowball into an unsustainable toxic monoculture.
So, if piefed uses “opinionated” defaults to stave that off, good.

It's a good example of the Paradox of Tolerance:

Let’s see if piefed is as open as it claims to be. The creator and maintainer actually injects their own opinion into the source code. There are so many deny lists and a social score built into the system.
Piefed is great at putting in new features and making everything pretty. But it’s so opinionated, you’re better off on Reddit, imo.
I'm now intervening as a mod. The povokative passive-aggressive tone you used is a big no.
Please, can you edit your comment and just tell us that you disagree with the score system and remove your source and reddit part ?
Maybe you wanted to see your post removed for proving your point even futher as "See ? Piefed's staff censorship ideas they doesn't agree."
I went to the your gif and read comments : you won't see that kind of content here. I also asked users to edit their comment, here, when they critized lemmy and i expect you to do the same.

Yes, i disagree with lemmy dev's political opinions but that's not the main reason we enjoy Piefed. And when Nutomic asked me to share lemmy contact and documentation in iceshrimp dev's channel, i helped him. :)
Let's go back to your post :
- The beggining is aggressive. Are you testing if Piefed is open ?
- The meme link. We are from various countries, so the american flag...
- opiniated ? A software isn't neutral, it follows our ideas. For example i enjoy the rational discourse toolkit. :)
- Reddit, was it necessary ? Last time i went there, i was surprised by the huge amount of bots and ads...we are better of on the fediverse, don't you think ?
You can disagree with the score system, the no federated vote...and explain your point, why this and that...but not the way you did.
So please edit your comment and remove those above part
Users can choose what they prefer :
- the way communities are moderated and managed
- their software and its features, ui...
And i'm happy for them they can choose their favorite pie. If you prefer Lemmy, that's great. :)
I cannot use a tone via text easily: see Poe’s law. It was meant to be informative and sort of speculative to the future of Piefed. I was happy when Piefed came around but this changed my view a little. I want all federation to succeed but having these things be embedded in the code and not flags to set (even though you can turn most off) just strikes me as concerning. I’m glad users have choices though, but we will still call out bad choices, as many do when calling out shitty instances like hexbear or .ml.
I will not remove the source and my opinion on it. I’ve been nothing but civil and understanding in the replies to my post and it’s clear it’s an opinion with using “imo”.

By "social credit" you just mean a toned down version of Reddits karma (that doesn't track positive score)?
No, like posting a gif leads you to have -1 social score, hidden, because you posted a gif. There’s so many opinions in the code.
You have point but on the other side, its goal is to avoid karma farming and help mods, admins for creating a serene place for discussion.
There is two distinct score : reputation, attitude.
- Reputation is people's reaction to your comment and post.
- attitude is how you vote. If you do mass downvote, your ability to downvote is removed until you reach a balance between upvote/downvote.
When we post a gif, and everyone laugh, it's easy to get a good reputation whereas elsewhere, i might post several terrible comments. That's why posting gif doesn't credit you reputation. You can't use gif to bypass bad comment and get a good reputation.
That's why it works like that.
Personally I'm fine with a comment getting removed if all they replied with is "this." Sure that's opinionated, but it's a good opinion.
It can be turned off anyway, most of the others do turn it off.

Hm, I wouldn't have known rocket is faster, since lightning is instantaneous in real life.
Perhaps a speedometer at different speeds and color chunks (low adds first 3rd is filled green, medium adds yellow to the next 3rd, fast adds red to last chunk) would be more intuitive? Though that could also be interpreted as server capacity if the word speed isn't next to the icon. Maybe a little icon legend somewhere nearby could help, or a question mark sign next to the speed icon that explains what it is?

Phew. Picked my instance based on vibes alone, but it turned out good anyway. Didn't even know about the speed ratings.

Wtf is piefed
Piefed is a different reddit-like software that federates with Lemmy. It's a different take on the same thing that Lemmy is providing, but still compatible with everything, so a piefed user can see and respond to your comment even if you're on Lemmy.
Piefed also has some neat features unique to it, such as:
- a very nice gallery view for image heavy communities.
- the ability to combine comments from multiple communities under one post, if the same link was posted to all of them. You can see an example of that here (notice how the comments have dividers for each community).
- the ability to create and subscribe to a pre-made list of communities, sorta like a multi-reddit.
