I like Lemmy. Active development, lots of third party apps, active community, etc but what other Fediverse projects are worth getting into like this one?

For microblogging (Twitter), I know Mastodon is really popular but there are so many other microblogging options like Pleroma, Misskey, FireFish, etc that I don't know which one is really worth getting into (as a user, dev, or admin). Are any of these on par with Lemmy?

For video, there's PeerTube. The content isn't great at all and most servers struggle to pay bills. I think the YouTube replacement is a looong way to go.

Elk, the Mastodon web client, has an excellent development setup with good documentation and solid leadership. There's lots of little fediverse startups. I've submitted some pull requests to Postmarks, a federated bookmark manager. It's very early stages and fun to be part of that!

a federated bookmark manager

Not something I'd ever imagine there's a use for but now I'm interested. Thanks!

Bookwyrm for organizing your book library and making reading goals (just like in Goodreads).

Also, few weeks ago I switched to friendica from mastodon and it is really such a better experience. You have so many features and it's compatible with a lot of other fedi apps that it quickly became my hub for the biggest part of the fediverse.

Get in to the ones that fill a niche for you!

Like, it doesn't matter how good PeerTube is, I'm unlikely to use it, because I rarely consume "Youtube like" content and when I do, it's without an account or interaction, following external links.

But I use the threadiverse and microfediverse as my only social media outlets.

If I was a YouTube creator and would know anything about hosting then I'd get a $5 VPS and host my videos there by myself, this is one of the few ways you can be in controll.
