Tech "innovators" under capitalism:

we've done it, folks, we've invented [rent]!

Techno-Feudalism in action. Serfs must pay tribute to the overlord.

paulie-point You kick up 30 points for protection plus a little extra to patreon for their troubles for each donation you earn.

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

One more thing, the price of the brick is going up. 30 more.

So patreon tells their big money makers like chapo to crack down on piracy to make sure that patreon's income streams stay stable just in time for Apple to decide to take their feudal cut. What curious timing

Well how do you increase shareholder value in a company producing the same shit year after year? Milking your "customers" (more like victims) harder.

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The customers and their own products??? like, the fucking dipshits rely on these apps and the developers of them to be willing participants in the Apple ecosystem, especially to be willing participants in the native Apple ecosystem.

Native apps or what keeps People tied to Apple products, and if app developers feel that investment is under threat they will move to cross platform tools, or even the web. Both of those surrender far too much control for apple's liking.

You can only use safari on ios which again locks developers into the apple ecosystem. It doesn't even work properly on iPhones with less RAM and constantly refreshes Web pages making the experience unusable. I'll never buy an iPhone again.

That's future Apple's problem.

Lmao! Gang shit. Tim Apple you’ve done it again- you dawg

Seeing lots of haters in Tim's comments, but precious few players classic

Who could have ever seen absolute power corrupting absolutely?

the walled garden is really not beating the prison charges.

EZ mac from commissary now costs $5/cup and the phones are $2/min and sending your cousin $ for either has a 30% processing fee.

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That’s telling Patreon Creators, not even patreon itself? How the fuck does that work?

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

yeah usually that's exactly what happens.

the apps that get tied into iOS platform fees just encourage people to go through the website. that, and often the pricing will be higher when offered through the iOS app to account for the platform fees.

for example, remember watching a Dan and Phil video recently where they were promoting some VPN service in an ad segment, and part of the ad was them encouraging people to sign up by the website rather than the app for a cheaper rate lol.

Im dont quite know if apple's able to punish those kinds of tactics? Sure they can just take the apps down over some terms of service clause, the capitalists seeking rent through the revenue streams of other capitalists is usually frowned upon, and one of the rare cases where the state is willing to intervene as a mediator.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Won't this just result in everyone bailing on patreon?

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

It means every podcast with a patreon is gonna spend like 30 seconds an episode begging listeners not to use the app.

Capitalism is the most efficient system for resource allocation

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

more like people will just access patreon by the web, and picture on me just pull that app from Apple entirely. that, or they'll just heavily push users into making purchases outside of apple's watchful gaze lol.

[–] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

I think the app already encourages you to pay via the site instead of in-app which a few other apps do as well but maybe not as high profile as Patreon. Apple is probably going to delist the app altogether which is fine because it sucks anyway.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Idk, just fuck the app store. There is no future in Patreon giving Apple a 30% cut.

Sorry apple, you can only do that if you've been rumor milling sequels to your flagship IP for 2 decades
