My kids only know Docs in the same way my mother only knows Word.
They are young enough that they don't have a reason to use a word processor at home but we only use Libre Office so hopefully they will learn a bit about how you have a choice.

True, but Apple made cool, high-design stuff that was fun to use to win hearts and minds. Google makes the cheapest possible product that also harvests the maximum amount of your data. People can tell the difference.
Also why every college student gets free access to professional grade tools like photoshop, solidworks, or arcmap.
I'm not saying this isn't a somewhat nefarious practice. But also, it is completely unsurprising.
In this case I feel like it is extra nefarious, since the point of using chromebooks in schools is also to surveil students and not give them control over devices that are managed by school admins who would like a company to ensure that they do not get revealed as incompetent by child hackers. That shit is getting normalized and students are also not getting experience working with computers that aren't just edu-kiosks that only allow superficial interaction. Major contributing factor to tech illiteracy.
