Those are some amazing eye expressions, both in the woman and in the baby. Wow. Really captured all the fear and other emotions.

Side note, I don't understand how a human can feel okay killing babies and women like this, defenseless people who are of no threat. WTF.

They dehumanize them. You probably wouldn't feel that bad about killing a rat or cockroach.

I don't understand that part either. The dehumanization. Humans are human. How can people forget that?

[–] 5ibelius9insterberg@feddit.org 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That’s easy:

Step 1: Someone^tm^ does something bad.

Step 2: People are shocked and feel the need to distance themselves.

Step 3: Someone^tm^ is called „Monster“

And there we have dehumanization in three easy steps.

I don't see how anyone could ever convince me how innocent women and children are monsters. Nah man, I think you are either skipping a lot of steps here or there's something else fucky happening with these murderers.

I‘m talking about dehumanization in general. Labeling perpetrators as „Monsters“ happens pretty often and is a very common way to dehumanise someone because it’s easier to turn someone into a monster than to accept that humans are capable of horrifying things.

But you are right, to dehumanise innocent bystanders you needs a few more steps and a few years of racist/fascist propaganda. „Us“ vs „Them“ is probably a good start. Followed by normalising violence in general and especially against „Them“. On top of this comes a bundle of arbitrary rules that we are told „They“ always break because it’s in their „Nature“. And there you go…

Maybe it's because I didn't grow with anything us vs them that I can't relate to being persuaded by such propaganda, but as an adult people should know better. At least these days when we have a good way to actually see for ourselves what's happening in other places in the world and hear their own stories.
