Videos analyzed by The New York Times appear to contradict federal accounts of the shooting. The man, an I.C.U. nurse, was an American citizen with no criminal record, the city police chief said.

Jan. 24, 2026 [shareable 30-day gift article]

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said it had joined Minnesota state officials in filing a federal lawsuit on Saturday night “seeking to prevent the destruction of evidence related to the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti.” The text of the lawsuit was not immediately available.

John Mitnick, who once was the head attorney at the Department of Homeland Security in the first Trump administration, criticized his former agency on Saturday night. “I am enraged and embarrassed by DHS’s lawlessness, fascism, and cruelty,” he wrote on social media.

Yes, NYT, the Donald administration lied.

I’ll give you a moment to wrap your head around this.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

"Wow, these lies are so obvious. Why would you even cover them?"

An alternate reality:

"Of course the mainstream media is silent about Trump's lies."

I have little sympathy for the NYT over e.g. their deliberate whitewashing of Israel's genocide, but holy fuck can they just not win on this front. It's the press' job to report when the president is lying to the public, regardless of how obvious it is.

They're gonna need more than a moment to unpack their own lies about it.

Not that him holding a gun would have been any better of a justification.

[–] BaroqueInMind@piefed.social 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ownership of a firearm is a constitutional right. So him simply having it is not justified in killing them. Cops keep forgetting they're not the only ones allowed to have one for self defense.

Because they don't need to remember that. They know they can shoot whoever they want with impunity as long as they follow a certain script.

"I feared for my safety so I wasted that [Insert derogatory adjetive][insert derogatory noun]"

The whole tactic is to throw out an excuse right away for the right to latch onto and who cares what the truth is. It's been this way for years.

Yup, they know speed is more important than accuracy. They create an early narrative as soon as it happens so the bots and fascists on social media have a clear consistent message.

They are sustaining an entirely fabricated reality and it needs constant maintenance.

Get your bingo cards out, folks.

Is he violent Marxist?

High ranking antifa?

Does he know anyone who might be trans or gender non-conforming?

Has he, at any time, sent material support to Hamas?

Did he utter an anti-Christian slur before he so viciously used his cell phone to record a video?

Did Flock pick him up at the Columbia protests?

Did he have a twitter account that spread antisemitic messages such as “Stop the genocide?”

As an ICU nurse, did he every force transgender a sweet innocent Christian white woman?

I think it's gonna be worse. I think they've pushed the line so much that they don't have the need to come up with an excuse.

The amount of absurdity trying to justify the murder of Renew Good was already beyond anything resembling reality.

They have reached the stage of: "they were just in the way".

I'm pretty sure he was being accused of biting off an agent's finger in another post i just saw, unless that was someone else. Hell they were claiming he approached them with his gun out before his body was even cold even though video evidence showing quite the opposite even faster.

[–] PineRune@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

The videos I've seen definitely show him using a phone to film what's happening as he begins to help the lady that was assaulted. What I've seen other people say is that he had a legal, holstered pistol that was taken by ICE officers moments before executing him.

It's so weird watching the media write stories like it's a breaking headline when I saw a fucking Twitch streamer show me this like an hour after the murder happened.

I get it. It's trying to counter the lies of our government. But holy shit.

Untrained unrestrained Nazis with the right to murder with no consequences.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

I agree but want to say I think we really need to drop the "untrained" vocabulary. This implies there is some level of training that world "fix" some of the problems with SS troops.

This vocabulary is coming from Cops and Democrat politicians. They want to fix the SS by making sure they have more mandatory training that they will only use to terrorize people better.
