ayy comrades, this is my first gun so sorry for the possibly obvious question. i ordered this gun online.

so when the magazine is all the way in the gun, it sticks out of the bottom still. i cocked the gun back and looked and it's hitting that little release to lock it in place when i insert it so to me it looks like its fitting properly. why does it hang out so much tho? is this the wrong magazine for this gun? the photo above is the one from the site when i bought it. i thought it looked like that just to show it came with a mag.

worst case scenario a magazine for one of these is cheap but i just wanna know if im just doing something wrong here

Don't take this the wrong way, but you should really get yourself to a gun club or go shooting with someone who knows what they're doing. Handguns in particular are one of, if not the most dangerous things you can handle. You should get hands-on instruction from someone well versed in firearms and firearm safety.

that's the plan, i just picked this up today. i figured i needed one before i did any of that lol

Awesome! Guns are fun and useful. The only reason I was mentioning anything is because putting the wrong magazine or ammo in your firearm can be quite dangerous, and under certain circumstances can lead to you holding a polymer shrapnel bomb in your hand. If you're comfortable doing so, I would feel out your local gunshops and bring your hipoint there to get a couple magazines and ammo from the salespeople there. They should be knowledgeable and answer any questions you have. And ignore anyone mocking the mighty hipoint. They're functional handguns for a decent price.

A lot of more compact pistols have optional extended magazines if you're more concerned about round capacity than concealment. On the extreme end of things, you have stuff like a 33 round mag for a Glock 19 like this:

But typically they look more like this M&P Shield one that has 4 extra rounds from the "normal" capacity

Pretty common for there to be higher capacity mags that fit a pistol. You can probably find a little 'sleeve' that goes on the bottom of the mag that makes it look like an extension of the grip.

As long as it cycles correctly, it'll be fine. You got the shitty meme gun so it looks a little shit.

But also a handgun is worse than useless unless you practice shooting it. I'd trust someone to just pick up a rifle and use it in self-defense. I wouldn't do the same for a handgun. Unless you can hit a man size target from draw regularly, I wouldn't use it even in an emergency. A fucked up trigger pull or flinching will literally prevent you from hitting the broad side of a barn.

General rule when dealing with firearms is there's pretty much nothing you can do to it with your bare hands that would hurt it. When you put in a magazine you wanna really slam that fucker in.

But yeah, if you've done that and it caught and it's secure and still sticking out, you're probably fine. Worst case there's something seriously wrong with it and it's not gonna feed rounds into the chamber, which is the kind of problem that makes it go click instead of bang so it's not going to be dangerous. For the most part if nothing is obstructing the barrel, anything that could go wrong will be safe.

But yeah, definitely get some time with an instructor if you can, they've heard way dumber questions than what you can come up with and they're not gonna judge you for not knowing. Most of them are big fucking nerds who want to rant at you about guns the same way a star wars fan wants to tell you about Glup Shitto's cameo in the new spinoff book of a novelization of one scene of The Clone Wars or some shit.

This is strange to see, I have one of these with both an eight and ten round magazine. But my ten round magazine has plastic around the bottom to make it look normal when seated.

But my eight round guy sits flush.

[–] Futterbinger@hexbear.net 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

An 8 round magazine should sit flush, is yours a 9 or 10 round magazine?

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

another dumb question, how do i tell without currently having ammo?

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Some times they will have numbers on the side next to little holes, so you can tell how many rounds you have left easily.

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

i believe mine has 9 unless these aren't also to see how many bullets

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Based on some image searches, I think that's likely a 10-round single stack mag. 9 holes usually equates to 10 rounds.

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 2 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

oh nice thank you, so it sticking out of the gun like that isn't a problem?

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 5 points 18 hours ago

Probably not a problem, might be good to have an OEM one on hand. Maybe there are situations where the smaller 8 round mag is what you need.

When you have time to take it to the range you can test both and make sure they work reliably.

[–] Futterbinger@hexbear.net 2 points 17 hours ago

So long as the magazines held in place by the magazine release catch it should be fine.

Some manufacturers make extended magazines that take things to comical lengths. Here's a Glock with a 33 round magazine.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 2 points 20 hours ago

I doubt it would be much of an issue, but I'm not too knowledgeable. You should be able to find one that fills the gap properly, or one of lesser capacity that doesn't stick out.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 0 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I don't own one of these and never fired one but according to google images it's magazine looks to sit flush.

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

that's what i was seeing too. i'm gonna order an oem one
