Plasma 6 Bugs

If you encounter a bug, proceed to https://bugs.kde.org/, check whether it has been reported.

If it hasn't, report it yourself.

PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING HERE.

Developers do not look for reports on social media, so they will not see it and all it does is clutter up the feed.

One video showing something better than the entire concept of the metaverse. Probably because this doesn't look like a way to create a space specifically to rent, sell or advertise shit.

Can't wait to try this on the Steam Frame

[–] Yggnar@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Pretty sure steam frames cameras will be black and white

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 3 days ago

I'm more interested in the virtual screens than the AR aspect. I'm perfectly fine to do this in a VR office I really don't need to see the real world when doing this.

It has a connector on the front for a potential color camera

[–] shadshack@feddit.online 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Why do you say that? Valve's last two VR headsets had full color cameras.

[–] Yggnar@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

"Four high-resolution, monochrome cameras" https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamframe

[–] Thunderbird4@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

It’s in the published specs. The pass through cameras on the Steam Frame will be monochrome, but an expansion port exists that could support third party color cameras. They’ve said they prioritized game streaming features over AR.

Or some AR glasses!

Some are super cheap but all use (non-standard-rgb subpixel?) oleds.

Might be more comfortable for such 2d stuff.

You heathens and your godamn communist technology

[–] lascapi@jlai.lu 4 points 3 days ago

Wow! I love it !! 🤩

[–] fubarx@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Cries in word-processor 'focused writing' mode.

Still, pretty amazing they got full running video in one of the windows.

[–] Fabrik872@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What headset is used in the video?

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago

I don't know, but the developer mentions these in the Merge Request: Rokid Max, HP G2, Quest 3.

I've never heard of Rokid. Looks like they are $150 AR glasses.

[–] PureTryOut@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Huh, is this something that's actively been developed? Is there a MR?

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I understand the Steam Frame is using it

[–] PureTryOut@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Source? I found the MR, https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/8671, and nothing about that shows it's for the Steam Frame. In fact, the video shows a colored passthrough camera mode while the Steam Frame (sadly) has a black and white camera only.

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 3 days ago

Valve has announced the use of the KDE desktop on the frame, and then KDE shows this off. Couldn't give you more than that, but it seems pretty straightforward doesn't it?

[–] Jestzer@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I would be thrilled if I could bring life back to my Oculus Rift S with this.

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 5 points 3 days ago

Nice!

Next step is to make it not only a set of virtual flat screens, but allow the user to interact with 3D objects

Imagine having that tree in 3D and having screens around it, or something along these lines

Getting a 403. Is it just me?

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Same. I was able to find a video of it online though. This is probably what they posted. https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/8671

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Correct, that's the video that I see in the OP.

OK, that's also returning a 403. Wondering if there's something with my IP address...

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

That's great, but how do I pron with this?!?!?

[–] Shayeta@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Can we first get a functional headless KRDP though? TigerVNC + Xorg + KDE worked amazing for connecting to my headless work computer on the same LAN, but ever since switching to wayland this kind of setup is simply impossible since it needs to be implemented on Kwin level.

Is anyone working on this? Is there a feature branch I can keep track of and maybe contribute to?

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It's very unlikely that work on this VR feature prevents work on headless KRDP, so let's not artificially delay features, OK?

[–] jlow@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 days ago

Completely forgot about Gnosia, need to pickit up again.

[–] NightFantom@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 days ago

So can we use this in non-vr? I just want bumptop back ...

[–] hodgepodgin@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

way too much content for me :(

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 4 days ago

NOOOIIIICCE!!!

I mean, I'll never, ever, use it, but.... NIICE!!
