Predictably, in the comments for this article, some libs thought the appropriate rebuttal was "because they did things legally." Ok lol.

lol to you but if democratic presidents did things illegally like trump they would not get my vote. Im talking us constitution and law as are likely most of the commentators you read.

Tbf congress lets Trump to whatever he wants, and they're supposed to check him - them and the supreme court. But it's all been stacked.

Vote in the midterms, damnit.

Where no matter how many Dems get seated they'll somehow not get quite enough votes to hold anyone anywhere to account

Well... the big task for democrats coming up on the midterms? Oust the old gerintocratic guard. The DNC needs a complete overhaul - really.

Ah yes, great point. Democratic presidents also could've fascisticly broken dozens of laws per week but didn't. Therefore we know they are BAD and op is definitely not helping the fascists (assuming we ever have elections again, you know, those things Democrats can and should have cancelled long ago).

Hmm, but Trump also has active control of all 3 branches of government. That hasn't happened for a Democrat president in a long time. It matters a lot, he can do anything he wants because he's safe from impeachment and from the courts.

This took decades of stacking the courts. It's dishonest to pretend that most presidents could have done any of this.

A man deliberately tearing apart the country he's in charge of is far from proof of that.

Good cop bad cop for decades but Americans still eat it up. The reality is, up until the lack of physical safety that the empire has been exporting around the world came back home, and the spikes in material discomfort, Americans didn't care. The blues were happy with yet another Peace Prize recipient, Obama, and if you saw how many people have died by his command you'd quickly understand Kissinger and Goebells getting them too were not rare but the actual reason this prize was invented for: spin and PR. They're superficial and always were, but now they're just shooting white ladies in the face in broad daylight so people are losing their minds because where empathy fails, fear might work.

The times are changing and America is being restructured, and if Trump doesn't finish the job they'll spin it in a way you believe the new Dem head is "taking a stand to the Nazis" and "reviving the spirit of the Constitution" and whatnot but nothing will fundamentally change because America is a nation captured by capital and "democratically elected leaders" are scapegoats first and foremost, dancing to the tune of money (capital controls the country because the amoral ones can be bought and the moral ones either never get a chance at power and get disappeared quickly if they come close), the direction the nation takes is disconnected from their so-called leadership.
