A 6-month-old baby was hospitalized after federal law enforcement agents in Minneapolis struck a car full of children with a flash bang, before flooding it with tear gas.

Parents Shawn and Destiny Jackson told Kare11 that they were driving their six children home from a basketball game Wednesday when a protest stopped them in their tracks.

As bystanders rushed the children to the safety of a nearby house, they had to go back for the 6-month old who had stopped breathing. “He was the last person to come in, he was just like, lifeless, like, he had like, foam, like, around his mouth, and you can, he had tears coming out of his eyes,” Destiny told Kare11.

Destiny said she performed CPR on the child while others called emergency services, who arrived shortly after.

Even though I'm a cynic about the reality we're in, I still believe stories like this would slowly wear down the right wing propaganda effect, if MAGA actually saw them.

I mean, a flashbang thrown under a family car that stopped a 6-month old from breathing and traumatized an autistic child, none of whom were even part of the protests, for no reason. The narrative MAGA is fed is that these are left-initiated violent riots, but all of the actual data is ICE terrorizing and lawlessly assaulting peaceful people. Cognitive dissonance can grow to be enough to break a person's delusional reality, but the biggest problem is just putting actual information in front of these people's eyes. Because they're never going to seek it out, or get it from a sycophantic algorithm.

It just feels insurmountable sometimes to connect with the human part of MAGA people.

Fox news is blaming the parents ‘for putting their children in harm’s way.’ So even if any of their viewers see how depraved this is, their anger has been effectively redirected.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 42 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Working as designed and built slowly for decades. The goal was always to create a voter block that would consistently keep the right in power, no matter what.

[–] lolrightythen@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

I don't get it. What the fuck.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 30 points 4 months ago (1 children)

They would just blame this one on the protestors and leave it that. Never thinking a moment beyond that, that there was no reason whatsoever for ICE to deliberately throw a flash bang or tear gas under a random car. "If those protesters hadn't been disrupting traffic, the car wouldn't have had to stop. End of story." It's called a thought-terminating cliché.

"Something something Biden argle bargle he created this immigration mess due to open borders, more bafflegab, Golden Jesus is going to fix it even if he has to break a few omelettes yadda yadda...."

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago

Most of the MAGAts responding to information about it blame the parents for taking their baby to a riot, which is of course, not the case at all.

[–] Loce@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

At some point, left should actually start doing shit thats being accused of for the past year. Give ICE their own medicine.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Maga is a cult. They won't believe any of it and will spin it to twist their demented world view. They need to be deprogrammed

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago

if MAGA actually saw them.

There is the problem. Faux news will never let them know that any of this happened.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 4 months ago

i feel like right wing propaganda, new sources and the talking head have been awfully quiet as of late, they dont want to know what the supporters whats been happening, keep it vague so they can twist the narrative later.

ICE riots, GOP applauds

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 59 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Press: What do you have to say about ICE nearly killing an infant?

Noem: Who? Oh, they were a terrorist or something. Next question.

[–] slevinkelevra@sh.itjust.works 14 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

No that's not how their rationale works. They will blame it on the protestors, as without them the car would not have been stopped. Just like how you can get jailed for felony murder if you try to flee police and they kill somebody while chasing after you.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 39 points 4 months ago

ICE are terrorists, every single enlisted member deserves the Gitmo treatment. Don't just dissolve them, destroy them.

[–] radio@sh.itjust.works 37 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Magat's reading this story and asking, "But was the baby white"? before deciding if they are outraged or not.

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Magat's are waiting The Great Leader to tell them to be angry at the baby because they were resisting the Proud and Commendable Officers.

[–] i078@europe.pub 6 points 4 months ago

I’m going to bet the parents where at fault because:…

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 months ago

but how do we know that the baby wasn't a criminal?

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

They don't even care about that anymore. It's already been spun as the parents taking their kids to a protest, so anyone pro-ice just sees them as liberal idiots who got what they deserved.

When ice starts killing peoples in front of mass graves. This is why you don’t vote for nazis

Complete and blatant de-humanising, just as we saw in Nazi Germany.
The time to fix this will shortly pass.
The evil ideation is already spreading like a virus for the stupid, carried on instant sea of X, Facebook and others.
Good people - please take your stand by shouting down the stupid

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Shouting down wont be enough. This needs a more physical solution.

“My 11-year-old, who is autistic, keeps talking about it,” Destiny told Kare11. “He was talking about it all night. I couldn’t sleep because I was scared.”

When I was a kid, someone threw a brick through my bedroom window as I was heading off to sleep. It scared me so much that I had trouble sleeping for literally years after that. I can't imagine how much worse the trauma of this must've been.

God, my heart hurts to hear these stories. I'm not in the US, so all I can do is spectate with growing dread and horror.

I've been trying hard to not let myself become numb to this though, nor become too focussed on the big picture of thinking about US's descent into fascism. I'm equally powerless on that scale of things as I am when witnessing stories like this, but I've found it's better to keep my focus on the small stories. It hurts to hear them, but that hurt is one that is fundamentally good, because it is compassion for my fellow humans. In an odd way, the hurt feels grounding because it's meant to hurt, because what is going on are crimes against humanity. I'd rather feel this than nothing because it reminds me of the humanity I share with the people who are being oppressed.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 months ago (2 children)

You can use the power you have, even from outside the USA.

Kick America in the wallet.

Boycott anything that is made in USA. And any american parent company that sells products in your country.

Don't travel there (which I assume you already have chosen).

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Indeed, and I'm glad you highlighted these things. It's something I have been trying to do, as well as increasing people's awareness of these choices. It feels like it makes so little difference, but it's not nothing.

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Also write to your government representatives about removing copyright anti-circumvention laws saying that they hurt the local economy and only benefit big tech companies from the US.

This is important because US big-tech backed Trump into taking office and Trump is beholden to these companies who have the US economy purse strings.

Individual countries removing these laws will make the money holders VERY nervous and they in turn will pull the strings the US government officials dance with.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

I for one applaud the heroes at ICE for keeping us safe from this baby. The baby was coming right for them. They were clearly acting in self defense. I heard one of them suffered internal ego puncture. I wish these patriots a speedy recovery.

  • the president probably.
[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Well the 6 month old baby was an antifa lgbtq latino drug terrorist, duh

[–] 37piecesof_flare@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Well the ice agent feared for his life, so the baby had it coming.

[–] Jimm@lemmy.world 15 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That story is absolutely shocking and heartbreaking. Reports say federal agents in Minneapolis used flash bangs and tear gas during an operation, and a family driving home with six kids got caught in it their 6 month-old baby stopped breathing and was unconscious until bystanders and the mom gave CPR before medics arrived. Three of the children were taken to the hospital, and the whole thing has left the parents and the community shaken. It doesn’t sound like just a routine police action it raises real questions about how crowd control tactics are being used and whether innocent people should ever get caught up in something like this.

[–] MrTolkinghoen@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

You mean the part where they threw the flashbang and gas INTO their CAR

Way to rewrite the story such that it WOULD have been rational to use flashbangs against protestors in the first place. But innocent bystanders not ok, so this implies the protestors aren't innocent?

[–] elvith@feddit.org 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Soooo... Knowing this is in America - Who's gonna pay the invoice for the emergency services?

We don't want socialized healthcare!

Also: How much should we send for a GoFundMe?

The pigs heard that the baby had a cache of shit and piss hidden somewhere, and they really don't like it when decent people throw shit and piss at them!!

I've read articles saying that abolishing ICE now has popular support, and other ones saying that it is much more difficult to unwind a carceral state than it was to put it together in the first place. But ICE is uniquely open to being made irrelevant via presidential order. All a president would have to do is use the vast power of pardon and clemency to pardon people for crossing the border illegally.

Immediately afterwards, ICE would have nobody to arrest or harass and no job to do.

In addition, the "bad hombres" could still be deported, but only on the back of other crimes they committed.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 months ago

Good thing ice have their own paramedics and shit ready to deal with the 6 month old.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

It will continue to get worse.

DHS blamed it on the parents then deleted the tweet. I'll never believe anything from this gov at face value.
