While I don't get the hype, I'm glad people are happy :3

wait, it's minecraft all over again?

[–] qaz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

It's a different game created by one of the largest Minecraft servers Hypixel

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

From what I get, it is similar to Minecraft, but the battle is more RPG oriented, including dodging and so on. Also like an RPG it is story driven and has quests and villagers. I never played either games, and it is just what I read about it.

You know i really have been thinking somebody should make a Dungeons and Dragons Luanti Modpack. With an AI dungeonmaster. And maybe you can have dynamic dialogues with NPCs or sth.

Well, I'll be damned. I didn't follow through with the preorder because Hypixel stated that they would make a Linux release at a later date.

Why do people still pre-order games before release? It's not like a physical object that will be sold out. Just wait until release and look if its good or bad.

Fear of missing out, I guess. And yeah, I agree. I'm glad I held off on the game. I'm not doing any more pre-orders, that's for sure.

So far it seems to be a slightly higher res minecraft, but designed more like lego fortnite.

Different crafting tables, one for general vrafting, one for building blocks, one for armor etc. and you can upgrade then with materials

Different weapons play differently. Mace swings slowly sideways, dual daggers attack fast, etc. all weapons have a charge up attack and an “ultimate”(you activate the ultimate after fighting a bit) and you can block with them too.

Lots of critters, deer, foxes, etc (incl hostile ones like wolves and spiders), you can mount horses too but i was killing one for the hides, so i didnt try it

Lots of enemies all around, and in random decrepit buildings, incl melee, archers and casters

You got a map!

Ive only played a few hours. Explored a bit and wentninto some underground cavern to find copper and iron. Then i started building a house. Quite a few options for both building styles and decorations

Its fun but it IS early and lots of things is missing

I came a cross what looked like some undead crypt or something, went inside, was greeted by a “WIP” sign. Those are in quite a few places..

I still have nonidea about.. farming, planting trees, etc

I saw somewhere i had 0/0 mana, and in the old trailer a player shoots fireballs.. but ive not seen anything that made it seems like i could get a staff and cast fireballs.. i guess its not an early game thing.

There was a place with NPCs but the one i found that had a F to trade prompt didnt work, i guess work in progress on that still

How does it compare (as it is right now) to other open source games similar to Minecraft ?

[–] Nioxic@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

Today, a bit lacking in features and polish

In the future i think this will be awesome

[–] Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does the map work properly for you as I had issues with it not saving progress after reload?

[–] Nioxic@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

My map worked fine

No issues saving either, that i noticed

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Sounds like 3D terraria. That's a good comparison btw.

[–] Chee_Koala@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Thx, sound promising! I think i'll hold off a bit longer, after reading your experiences.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

Hopefully this game will come out on Steam too. The blocker seems to be that Steam does not support all modding capabilities of this game. I would be okay with that...

I also got it to work as a nix flake. Day 1 Linux support baby

[–] TrumpetX@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago

Can confirm! I installed it on my son's computer earlier today. Ubuntu 24.04 reporting in!

[–] Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah overly Grindy with a few too many workstations and upgrades for those workstations. Also can't work out how to make a boat.

It's alright but after a few hours, you kind of question what are you supposed to be doing that is less boring than grinding hides

[–] popcar2@piefed.ca 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm running it on CachyOS and while it usually runs super well I'm sometimes getting random freezes for 1-2 seconds. Have you encountered anything like that or is that a me thing?
