"Ask for an itemized bill, that will cut the cost in half".

How are the hospitals not getting sued for this alone?

Wait, for real? Do they normally just give you a general cost and not specifying what makes it up? Non-american here

Real answer, I've seen 2 bills from 2 different hospitals in the past 3 years.

Without asking we were given an itemized bill each time.

I think the fact they have to pay to stay alive should tell you the answer to that one.

and if they don't, they may just have to consult a travel agent at the Department of Death

I suppose that this is the whole government system works this way, not only hospitals. So, suing them in current government system is useless. This is like some kind of a corruption.

Yes you see while you were under care they administered 2 aspirin to you, you can see that under the line item for $300

Imagine being forced to pay for privatised hospitals. This post was made by the EU-Gang. 🇪🇺

Oh it gets more fun, because if you have to go by ambulance like I did, you get a bill from the ambulance company. The one I had tried to quadruple charge me and had to be told multiple times that the bill was paid, they can't keep making up new charges because "we forgot one thing" or "rates changed".

Luckily it was all worker's compensation, so I didn't pay a cent, but it was a rather interesting 6 months.

I got an ambulance bill despite not even being in the same state as the ride.

They said they couldn't do anything unless I could tell them who actually did get the ride, which obviously I have no idea. Ultimately insurance got rid of them, but it was looking pretty hopelessly aggravating.
