"People" aren't doing this. Its hard as hell. One guy did this and saved like 100 bucks, which is cool if his time is worth nothing (its not).

And as soon as people start doing this, demand for the chips goes up and it becomes more expensive than buying them pre-assembled.

I thought the shortage was on RAM chips not PCBs.
