Hourly workers would never get this meme.

And neither do I.

Found myself. There and back again, a Lemmings tale.

In the end, it wasn't about the old devices. It was the friends we made along the way.

[–] mybuttnolie@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

you guys are making friends?

[–] Ste41th@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 months ago

Are we sure they're destroyed?

That is not dead which can eternal lie,

And with strange aeons even death may die.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Let's summon them!

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 15 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I think this is one of those grammatically and semantically correct sentences that dont mean anything but in meme form

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 months ago

They warned us it wasn’t funny

When I bought a new phone for GrapheneOS, I wanted to see if the new Pixel model was worth it, as mine was EOL. Many reviewers made comments about it being weird not buying a new 600 € phone every single year.

Then I checked some statistics from my local national bank. I calculated that the average resident in my country was in debt with 24,000 € and had about 3,000€ on hand.

Genuine question: how is capitalism supposed to continue?

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 4 points 4 months ago

What do you mean? Capitalism is functioning exactly like it's supposed to. It has always been a tool to consolidate wealth and power to a few people.

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 4 points 4 months ago

'I just need to make the numbers look good until I can quit this company and level up. Apre moi, le deluge.' - capitalists without capital

'I just need to keep things flowing toward me until I can quit this world and level up. Apre moi, le deluge.' - capitalists with capital

Anyone with a scintilla of awareness knows it has limits, but you can't 'level up' in capitalist games by accepting them.

They get everyone in horrendous debt until eventually we're all back to being just slaves for like the top 3 dudes. Sure we won't be able to buy nice things any more but slaves don't need nice things.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Is it just me or is /c/memes almost completely non sequitur?

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 4 months ago

We need to go back to the safe ground of Americans complaining about the rubbish Supremor they voted in again by accident.

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I just pulled a 20yo laptop out of storage and put Linux Mint on it because I was bored. Wifi and USB ports are slow as molasses in winter, but works fine otherwise.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Are they considerably faster in the summer?

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I guess I can either wait and see or put the laptop in the microwave

[–] TheTux@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 months ago

Na, they don't fall for the old microwave trick anymore, gotta change the date & time in settings

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And wage slaves hate it when Tik Tokkers recycle their appliances.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Recycling? Taking it with you to the grave and having it run perfectly when excavated two thousand years later is recycling.

[–] Alcan@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Me (salaried people but living in this economy): Yay! Finally I can afford the old devices

[–] HyperfocusSurfer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Me: still using a oneplus 5 from 2017 'cause it just works

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Flashed with /e/OS for security updates?

[–] Zangoose@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If you want to be technical about it, there could (and probably are given OnePlus's security history) still be unpatched firmware bugs that will never get patched because OnePlus and Qualcomm have stopped supporting their CPUs which are that old.

Not saying anyone should turn their working phones into e-waste, only that you probably shouldn't treat it like it's perfectly secure either just because it's flashed with the newest Android. Be careful with any super sensitive logins like bank accounts and government sites.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 months ago

Of course not, /e/OS itself isn't optimally safe either (they aim for maximum compatibility, so most phones can't even relock the bootloader). But it's way, WAY better than a completely unpatched phone from years ago. Not to mention /e/OS gets rid of all the Google spyware in a user-friendly way, and the newer Android makes sure you don't run into compatibility issues.

Lineage a.t.m, but used to be divest until it went eol
