Around the 1970's the oligarchs realised that the greatest risk to their wealth and power was democracy, so they set about implementing corporate dictatorships and ramped up the class war.

Fascism, culture wars, etc, etc are just a means to achieving their ends; that they can profit from the entire coup.

I can easily see a definition where anything that's not SMS, phone, or a channel we already monitor is social media.
