Stupid teenage me in highschool thought the 20th century had been the "age of fascism" and that people learned from history.

Around the 1970's the oligarchs realised that the greatest risk to their wealth and power was democracy, so they set about implementing corporate dictatorships and ramped up the class war.

Fascism, culture wars, etc, etc are just a means to achieving their ends; that they can profit from the entire coup.
