Open ai: Give us your medical records.

Me: so you can help treat my medical issues?

Open ai: No.

So, what is it intended for then?

I know the real answer is sucking up data, but what is the supposed benefit for users?

What they mean is That they’ll give you “insights” and “recommendations” which they absolutely know people are going to treat as gospel and medical advice at least as good as that from a doctor, but that their legal team has advised them that having disclaimers and caning it something like “wellness” will be enough to avoid legal responsibility when people inevitably die

They might make a health dashboard and give you "insights".

Enough dipshits will do it for free that they'll make a few hundred billion.

OpenAI will never be profitable.

It is absolutely wild how guys from massive companies that are insanely unprofitable and run wickedly large deficits become disgustingly rich. Its almost like the entire system is idiotic and meant to suck as much money out of working class people as possible.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

No but the tech bros will walk away with all the money they can.

Profitability? What's that? Don't you know you're meant to just continually make more and more spend commitments for compute resources so you never break even? /s

No, but now they will get further billions from US pharma and health insurance companies, even while their health app is bleeding money. They don't have any profitable product, but they have investors with extremely deep pockets who are designing their own unprofitable products with OpenAI as the foundation, and as long as they can string them along, the bloated bubble will continue.

It's such a horrible hell we live in that I could read a headline like that, breathe a sigh of relief, and think "Natural Selection will alleviate the Slopper problem."

Only if the consumer end actually mattered. It hasn't really for quite some time now. Investors and stock value is what matters, and those are completely detached from the consumer side of things.

You won't, but thousands of others will.

When genetic testing became a thing then people started fallingover themselves to submit genetic samples. You get an amusing piece of paper. They get a permanent record of your genome (and the indirect data of most of your family). People really don't care about their data.

I'd prefer to castrate myself with a rusty spoon, thanks.

Hahaa, funny.

If only the records from New Zealands primary interaction platform between patients and doctors/lab results, etc hadn't been hacked through a poorly secured module and exfiltrated for ransom...

At least scummy GPT is cutting out the middleman, that's efficient markets at work, right?
