Exclusive: Letter decries ‘stunning abdication of basic responsibilities’ and demands to know how many officers diverted

The Trump administration has abandoned efforts to combat child exploitation, human trafficking and cartels as it diverts thousands of law enforcement personnel to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Democratic senators said in a letter to the White House.

Ruben Gallego of Arizona, along with 28 other Democratic senators and one independent, wrote to the president, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DoJ) on Monday demanding federal officials provide a “full accounting” of officers who have been redirected to immigration enforcement and a list of all investigations impacted by the reassignments.

The letter, first shared with the Guardian, follows a series of reports suggesting that the president’s push to dramatically expand its force of immigration officers has hampered a wide range of law-enforcement priorities. The senators cited an ICE document from August 2025, published by the Cato Institute, a thinktank, which said more than 28,000 personnel from federal law-enforcement agencies had been diverted from their regular duties to work for ICE’s enforcement and removal operations (ERO), which conducts raids and arrests undocumented people.

In a shocker to absolutely no one, republicans prioritize hate and profits over anything they claim to actually care about.

I think this latest step in a series of equally horrifying steps fully supports the things ~~republicans~~ fascists care about.

Because obviously it's all immigrants' fault. They're all either drug dealers or child abusers. So getting rid of them will solve the problems.

Oh wait, that would be the USA government - child rapists and drug dealer pardoners.

I guess we need to get rid of the USA government.

Drug dealers eh? Whether true or not I'll just put this here as a take by the American Prospect also judging by how high little Marco was in that press meeting a week or so ago, I'd at least say drug abusers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS7e8SpFQs0

Wow what an article.

I haven't seen Rubio talk very much, but if I met someone acting like that I would be certain they were on coke or speed. The confidence makes me think cocaine though.

Child exploration is what Republicans do best - see the Epstein Files, what aren't redacted -so why would they even want to prioritize that?

That's a hell of a typo there...

ICE must be abolished by any means, they are and have always been imperial kidnappers.

It has been known as the Grauniad for quite some time

The latter is profitable to the GOP; the former entertains them. They're never gonna go against either in earnest. They're just gonna go after poor people. That's what they do. This is what people voted for (or refused to vote against). Our best hope is that people learn and vote better next time. It may have to get worse before it gets better.

These are the people who took their food stamps because they couldn't take their healthcare fast enough. They took that anyway. But some of them will still vote red because they hate brown people and LGBTQ+ people more than the GOP hurts them.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 3 points 3 months ago

Uh no, your only hope is not to “hope people vote better.” There are lots of things you can do. That you must do. You will not vote your way out of this.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 6 points 3 months ago

It's horrifying, as anything coming out of the USA these days.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

We can demand whatever we want from Republicans and we can only be sure of one thing. IF they respond, it will be with lies.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Why would the pedophiles want to investigate themselves? If they aren't pedos thmselves, they protect pedos.

Every fucking one of them are complicit.
