US no longer dependable on anything really

That is categorically untrue. You can always count on the US to do the wrong thing, fuck things up and enshittify everything. Highly dependable in this regard.

Yeeup. If there is any organization that needs a shadow structure ready to fully replace and take over once the nightmare is over, it's the CDC. People are dying already because of unchecked health misinformation, and time is always against us with exponential-spread disease.

The US has always had a strong undercurrent of unscientific thinking in medicine, this is an opportunity to rip the bandaid off and stop treating it as an authority for the long run. Even if things "go back the way they were" that's not ideal given their treatment of things like abortion, stem cells, and marijuana and other narcotics. It was just another of those "good enough" things the US used to provide. Let's build something better in their absence so we don't have to return to that.

It's my sincere hope that in medicine and the other sciences, there will be more of a overlapping and resilient meshnet of scientific endeavor. Already, before the current administration, China had surpassed the US in terms of shear volume of published peer reviewed research. With the brain drain from the US on fast forward with this admin, after all researchers have to continue their research, there will hopefully a broadening and deepening of research from facilities throughout the world. Something good has got to come from all this nonsense.

based on the FDA's track record, were they ever reliable?
