Geneva convention?

Yeah, we've ignored that since they convened in Geneva.

Sure would be nice if someone, anyone, actually DID something about it.

I expected the EU to have some sort of decency to uphold the international law since they're screaming over their lungs about being independent to US hegemony.

But I was too naive, they're fucking onboard with this.

These so called "civilized" country got rich off of colonialism to fund their industrialization and while wearing fancy clothes.

They're still fucking pathetic imperialists of old speaking of peace and human rights to be on a high horse to shield themselves from terror but not when they terrorize another country.

Can't they sanction USA with 19 packets of sanctions and send few hundred billion euros in cash and military equipment to Venezuela? They were saying formerly that this is their response to one country attacking another. Otherwise it would just look they aren't that civilised democratic faction in the world but just a hypocrite bootlickers of US empire

(/s of course they are the latter and everyone still not getting it after 2022 is completely politically illiterate)

The biggest hurdle to foreign intervention is that Gilead has significant weapons - it’s entirely possible that they just don’t think they’d be successful.

The EU had no issue with vastly worse violations of international law in Palestine, not sure why you'd expect them to be any different about something much more mild by comparison.

Honestly, I find it pretty wild that they're actually bringing him back to the US for trial. They are so incompetent when it comes to the law, that Maduro's lawyers are going to mop the floor with them. This is going to be a shit-show.

[–] _lunar@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 months ago

[–] TheFrogThatFlies@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Don't worry, as soon as word gets out in ICE they'll fly him out of the country in the same day.

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Yes I'm sure breaking a rule over POWs being displayed is certainly the issue to focus on here and not the fact that he used the military to kidnap a head of state

I think someone doesn't know that it's not supposed to be the Geneva convention. It's just the Geneva suggestion or checklist, actually

[–] starblursd@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Too bad every enforcement body in the US is a Yes person 😭

Lotta special forces in a lot of countries. The American people would be so mad if they visited.

For waiting so fucking long.
