A fictionkin is: "those who identify as something that is considered fictional, typically (a) fictional character(s) or species". They identify as a fictional character or species rather than with them.

The alternate universe involves everyone becoming their "true forms", which for fictionkins are the fictional character or member of the fictional species they identify as.

Ask if you wanna be curious, don't judge or call me "delusional" or something.

Why do you think you are like this? What distinguishes it from delusion? How does it impact your relationships with real people?

[–] may_be@thelemmy.club 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not sure, can't say it's from being neurodivergent because there are many neurodivergent people who aren't like this. I also have trauma and have something called Other Specified Dissociative Disorder so it may be a trauma response, no clue. I'm actually not sure, maybe because I know that I'm still in my human body and just believe I'm them in a parallel universe? Also, genuine question, do delusional people know they are delusional?

I don't tell them, I just shift and I feel like Tord or Larry but there's no noticeable difference.

I think it's possible to recognize you are delusional while still being delusional. Although I don't think that's typical, self awareness tends to be extra challenging and the nature of delusional thinking makes it a slippery thing to hold on to.

Ahh, makes sense

Even though I know I’m asking about a polarizing person, this next question is not in bad faith:

Is this similar to how Chris Chan operates? He has a whole theory that he is Sonichu (a combo of Sonic and Pikachu) in an alternate universe, and that a dimensional merge is occurring where all fictional characters will become real in this dimension. As time has gone on, he has seemed to incorporate even more alternate identities such as Jesus Christ and his own mother. Do you believe that the fictional characters are real in alternate dimensions also, and/or that they will become real in this dimension?

Also, are you able to control your shifting into different fictional identifications, or does it just happen to you? How does this affect your every day life like having a job or maintaining relationships?

Thanks for sharing about this, it is definitely interesting.

[–] may_be@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 week ago

Ohhhh, is that what the Merge is? I guess sort of, except in mine the Merge is more like everyone who is a fictionkin will become incarnated as their fictional selves and come together. I don't tell anyone about this, so my relationships are fine and I still need a job. I can't control it, it just happens. I am mainly Larry and another character called Tord.

How do you interact with others then? I mean in the alternate universe. Doesn't it break your suspension of disbelief when you think you are controlling everything and everyone there? Or do you actually share this parallel reality with a group of people like in a DnD setting?

[–] may_be@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 week ago

Good question, I don't know yet, all I know is that one day I will be incarnated into the alternate universe where everyone is their "true form"

[–] atheqtpie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How does this affect your day-to-day?

[–] may_be@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 week ago

I'm not sure, actually, I just sometimes feel like the characters. I "shift" into them sometimes.

[–] dnick@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What do you mean you identify as them. Like you would like to be them? Or you consider yourself the fictional person? Like you consider yourself to actually be the character, or you are that character in real life with all the characteristics you attribute to them? It seems direct enough just to live as them with the same name and personality and backstory as you see it.

[–] may_be@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 week ago

Good question. I would like to be them and I consider myself to be them in a parallel universe. I definitely don't have all the characteristics, as Larry is an origami rock (non-human), but I would like to and believe I do in a parallel or alternate universe.

Hi, very interesting. What are the similarities and differences between a fictionkin and a furry? Thanks.

[–] may_be@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 week ago

Hi! So I think a furry dresses up as an animal for fun (correct me if I'm wrong), a therian spiritually identifies as an animal, and a fictionkin identifies as a fictional species or character, though they could be a therian or something if the fictional species is an animal, like if they identify as a unicorn-fox hybrid or something.
