See this as an opportunity to pick a birthday you really want.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 31 points 4 months ago (8 children)

I wonder if there are spikes at 1980-01-01, 1990-01-01 and 2000-01-01.

Hello, UNIX.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

What if it's my real birthday? Who will believe me.

I mean I know 1/1 is a very popular “birthday” for cultures that don’t actually celebrate but people are asked to pick one.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 4 points 4 months ago

1/1 is the birthday of all horses.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

I was actually born on the first of January in the year 1901

[–] Malgas@beehaw.org 5 points 4 months ago

As far as Steam knows, I'm turning 126 next week.

[–] spy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 months ago

As far as I am aware, most people are indeed born on January first.

[–] SleeplessCityLights@programming.dev 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I use 2000-01-01 for most things.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 months ago

Me too. I used to use 1990-01-01, until I noticed that suddenly people from the early 2000s are adults too.

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago

I've been born in 1980 since I was like 12. Might graduate to being born in 1990 or 2000 if someone ever makes me scroll to the year.

Of course, there's that, but it's a good lesson to learn that just because some jackass requires that you fill in a birthday you're under no obligation to give it to them.

I love getting a random bday email from playstation that I setup when was like 14. Pretty sure I was born in 1946 or something.

I don’t see the issue tbh, just make something up. Feed the bullshit machine with bullshit if you insist on using it.

Wouldn't surprise me if meta demanded a legal ID photo or something, I recall facebook doing that at one point

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

This seems like something they're being legally required to track to "protect the children".

[–] Shirasho@lemmings.world 8 points 4 months ago

This. This is NOT Meta's fault. They are only complying with draconian laws made to "protect the children". Meta deserves a lot of flak, but not for this.

[–] lambalicious@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 4 months ago

1970-01-01 my beloved.

[–] njordomir@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

With the number of breaches and leaks, my chosen birthday is likely more substantiated than my actual birthday.

[–] thevoidzero@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

This reminds me when I was applying for credit card they couldn't confirm my identity because they were on a call with me and said this number is not associated to your name in any databases.

I got it in my name from the provider idk what other "databases" they have with names and numbers, but I'm happy I'm not there.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm almost 125 years old, be having a birthday in about a week. At least as far as every "service" that has my birthday believes.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 6 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Hey my birthday is ALSO Jan 1st, 1990!

[–] baronofclubs@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

1990 was 125 years ago!? Man, that makes me feel old...

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 2 points 4 months ago

1234 Elm street? wow! Small world?!

[–] Soapbox@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 months ago

April 20th 1969

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 6 points 4 months ago

Jokes on them. Nobody wants to use Meta Horizon.

[–] pir8t0x@ani.social 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Just enter a false birthday

[–] Hirom@beehaw.org 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And when Meta eventually locks the account for a dumb reason, recovery probably won't be possible because the account doesn't match your real birthday. It's safe to assume it's only going to get worse.

Move away from Meta as soon as possible, ideally to some place that doesn't collect personal info uncessarily.

[–] Quexotic@infosec.pub 2 points 4 months ago

Naw, you gotta put the false birthday in your pwd keeper app.

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago

Telling the fake date isn't working anymore?

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

If this keeps screaming 7 year olds off multi player VR games, I’m all for it.
