From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I left the server right after taking the screenshot. I do not have any interest in debating either trolls or fascists.

What's up with that weird answer? These creeps never give a straight answer when you ask them direct questions. If that person just wants to be edgy and thinks it's funny... Well, maybe they're a dumb, poorly socialised teenager. Cos it's not funny. It's not even a joke, really, is it? What's the joke? That they're not actually Hitler?

The halo and angel wings on the pfp take this to another level imo.

you'd hope it's a teenager, but my experience with the right informs me that it's more likely an adult with teenage sensibilities.

[–] nostrauxendar@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, you're right. That would take it from a kid being a shithead, into something a lot more sinister.

[–] Maerman@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's pretty bizarre. Regardless of the intended level of irony, it's a very bad joke, in all senses of the word 'bad'.

[–] BlueSquid0741@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

Not every sense of the word -see Michael Jackson - Bad, George Thorogood - Bad To The Bone, Badass, and so on.

Never heard of ArchCraft before. No interest in it now.

[–] curious_dolphin@slrpnk.net 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How did the mods respond when you reported it?

[–] littleomid@feddit.org 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Noticed it as well, left the server. I use some dotfiles from archcraft on my system, but immediately un-archcraftified my installation. Such a shame.

[–] Maerman@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's a bummer. Why must they come for everything we like?

[–] IcyToes@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago

They will. Report, and you see if the problem is one user, or the mods. If the mods are racist, it was never your thing. If they get banned, then you keep Nazis out of one more place.

the Linux community in general has a bit of a right wing issue from what I can tell and I can't really understand why that is.

Social isolation -> loneliness -> disdain for society -> fascism

[–] ringpop@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

so you assume that the typical linux user is socially isolated and lonely?

[–] Vupware@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is the typical Linux user a right-winger? Truth be told, I do not know.

[–] texture@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

no, i think not. pretty sure theres even a possible left or libertarian slant, but not right wing. they are the fray and they shouldnt bring shame on us all.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

The isolation can be anywhere, they are pointing out the stages. Linux community is not immune.

Linux does not have a systemic problem with politics, yet. But like any population, bigots exist and are loud and worthless.

What parts of the Linux community do you see this in?

The parts I'm in have no Nazis and not much right wing support because right wing nowadays trends Nazi.

a friend's discord is just like that, has someone worshipping "god emperor trump" and lots of rampant racism

he's not racist i don't think but it's sickening he allows that sort of thing in there

[–] etbe@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He created an environment that he's comfortable with. If he didn't like racism his discord would be different.

[–] underscores@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

he's just a privileged "racism is funny" white guy that has never processed how awful it is for people to get discriminated agains

[–] etbe@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

Yes that's someone who's comfortable with racism.
