Fans:

Realizes the writer/artist own the characters and IP.

Let the writer/artist decide how the story goes.

Discuss plot points and acknowledges plot holes

Debates what'll happen next season.

Adheres to established lore/previously released material

Porn.

Fandoms:

Porn

Tells everyone their "ships" and belligerently defends them.

"Head Canon"

Complains, loudly, that the "non-hetero coded" character being hetero is bad.

Defends "cousin Oliver" characters.

Thinks the writer/artist don't own the IP, the 'fans' do.

I would be ashamed of the Dragonball Z fandom, but I can't speak Spanish so it could all be completely profound for all I know.

This is how I felt looking at the fandom for the game Dispatch.

So much porn. I expected some, but was very surprised.

The Wolf Among Us fandom was the same way tbh.

A cute child is a cute child

No matter their gender, they all deserve headpats

"oh! i'm excited to discuss the themes of this manga, how the world and conflicts reflect our own, and how this advocates for a political framework centered around eroding authoritarianism by helping our friends"

"the asexual and the lesbian should fuck"

"…"

"it's not that deep"

I think that may depend on the kind of anime you're into ... and on which sites you go looking.

Unsure if the second phrase is implying to anything, but tried engaging with communities for same topics before accross different sites and can agree, they can behave rather differently from each other.

[–] tio_bira@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Berserk fan since 2012, the're few things i hate more in my life than a average Berserk "fan".

Those days i'm ashamed and have dismiss when the subject of the conversation is favorite manga and be mistaked by one of them

Eva fandom being mentally deranged 30 years and counting

(I am no different)

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Eva fans unironically have a better conceptualization of eternity and The Rapture than 99% of Christians, discuss
