These things are very possible here. As someone who has been a core part of this place for a while now and enjoying each moment in my own way, I thought of asking about what I realize is more like me to start off doing. Who wants to give it a go?

What did you get up to this weekend?

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

Mostly the usual, though I went to dinner last night.

Longhorn Steakhouse

What is your favourite recipe to cook or prepare? (Drinks included)

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

I'm not a big food person but I love crepes.

What is your native language? I see in another answer it’s not English.

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

I don't express it well when I say it like that, but it's more akin to a pidgin, which is comprised of a considerable amount of English but doesn't do the language justice. Pidgins are common in syncretic households and so I had to learn "actual" English later on.

Pidgin with what other language (like English + ?) Pidgin is a mixed bag of 2 or more languages, no?

Like what was your first language?

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

It was English + Tahitian.

What do you do for a living and what is your education background?

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

My education is mostly just a high school diploma, though I am taking post-high-school lessons at the moment. For a living, I work with public records.

My dude, are you having a stroke?

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

No. Am I supposed to be having one? I don't understand.

[-] tja@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Yes, same, but with your post. What exactly are you trying to say?

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

That people can partake in an AMA here.

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

Two questions mate, are you a native English speaker? Second have you proof read your post?

[-] ekky43@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Not OP, and not native English, but going by this subs topic and my understanding of AMA (Ask Me Anything), OP's request doesn't sound outrageous in any way.

Looking at the comments, I'm clearly missing something, so perhaps I could have you clarify this misunderstanding for me?

Edit: looking at your answer to OP clears up my question. I also stumbled on OP's ambiguous spelling and had to assume what they meant, but thought there was something much worse at play after reading the comments. Kinda like "DM" can mean multiple things.

I've proofread it a few times since the first replies began coming in. The only way of reading it which I can think of as off is if we don't treat "AMA" as a noun. AMA stands for Ask Me Anything but is also shorthand for the activity and the kinds of submissions that host them. And no to the first question.

This specifically is very confusing to read and understand:

I thought of asking about what I realize is more like me to start off doing.

I reread the post multiple times and it expresses a simple thought in a rather complex structure. But I don't get what you are saying with that part? That you want to be asked to start an ama? That you want people to ask questions here? That you are thinking about starting an ama in another thread and asking for opinions?

With the following sentence

Who wants to give it a go?

It seems you want others to start amas? But are also thinking about doing it yourself?

The simpler you write your sentences, the more people are able to understand them.

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

In the end, I wouldn't invalidate either interpretation. Note there are a few people here before who have done AMA's. It's a tradition for new mods as well, though it's debatable how new is new. The latter being what I most anticipated.
