The most expensive plan on my state's marketplace. Honestly, I'm going to have to start selling myself, or my body parts, to be able to afford this shit.

but instead of federal buildings its going to be health insurance companies.

[–] BilduEnjoyer@hexbear.net 40 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Yeah, I tried to explain the system to Spanish people and they were dumbfounded.

"So people just... Die then?"

"Yep"

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Tbf they have radical union leaders that can encourage it without the state sending cops to kill them in their sleep.

You do that in america (BLM) and you die in mysterious circumstances.

yea in france the worst thing that can happen is losing an eye or getting crippled.

dont be fooled they'd absolutely shoot in the crowd if they start to want more than crumbles.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

American cops do that anyway when you ask them to stop killing random people

I'd take that any day of the week and twice on Sundays compared to this shit.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 38 points 3 months ago (2 children)

lol you guys have to pay a deductible on your health insurance?!? Dude why would anybody want this system?!

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 34 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Most people hate the healthcare insurance industry (see almost universal support for Luigi allegedly shooting that CEO), but there is a multi-billion dollar propaganda industry to convince people that any change would only make it worse.

Also of course those who make money off of this scam are quite happy with things as they are, which includes many if not most politicians. This year so far, according to opensecrets, there has been $130 million spent on ~~bribes~~ lobbying by the insurance industry. Add on to that that a majority of congress are millionaires, and are presumably invested in things like insurance companies.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 32 points 3 months ago (3 children)

You guys are gonna need a lot more Luigi’s.

I keep repeating this, but I'm constantly amazed there hasn't been a single copy cat.

The reason that Americans support this health insurance system is that they want to hurt other Americans. Americans believe that hurting the people they perceive to be below themselves will result in better material outcomes for themselves. Historically, look at Reaganism and Southern Strategy.

The average American thinks that allowing people to die from preventable or treatable illness will keep their grocery bills down. It is a death cult.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 3 months ago

Know a nurse that worked in a medicaid/Medicare clinic. Basically place where people either low income, kids covered or no insurance and would be complaining about how they would come in for anything just to get say Tylenol or for easily preventable things but couldn't understand why they would go to the only place it'd be covered so they could actually afford it. Then again could be that it was mostly black people going in so just a way to be judgmental without being obviously racist

I like how it still includes token fees for daring to use your health insurance that costs more than I make in a year. If they don't get that $10 on primary care visits, they might go bankrupt. And don't you even think about seeing a dentist for a $100 cleaning. That would absolutely ruin them.

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 27 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No dental or vision on this plan, sorry.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago (2 children)

But $20 cardiology visits when your teeth rot out and it inflames your heart. Only $100 per ER trip when it leads to dementia and you wander away from your home because you can't afford a nursing home that also costs this much. Plus rewards.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

I really gotta find out how to go to the dentist lol

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

They'll pay $10k for a simple surgery, but refuse to cover a $1,000 tooth emergency. Or any dental really. 'Luxury bones'. That you pay seperate 'insurance' for but that insirance refuses to cover jack shit.

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago

That's too science-y for us.

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 31 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Glad those spineless dems ended the fucking shutdown. They got their vote and Republicans told them and everyone in the US that might need to see a doctor to eat shit.

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago

Just remember that they do not pay a single dime for any care. Plus, once they leave office, they keep their insurance for YEARS.

[–] Meltyheartlove@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

One must imagine sisyphus kaczynskified.

That did not sound good catgirl-flop

Welcome to America.

Just for the sake of comparing costs, in ukkk you'd have to be earning... the equivalent of 1.3 million USD annually before being liable $2.5k/month for National Insurance. And the healthcare is actually free.

It's a bit complex, but at the end of the day, the money raised from that NI payment alone is equal to the cost of our universal healthcare.

There are no words adequate to describe the inhuman extortion scheme known as privatised healthcare.

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

My god, what a paradise.

[–] daniyeg@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

so you have to pay 32k flat and pay 5.2k in healthcare cost in a year in order for your insurance to kick in? and you still have to pay for copay on every expense? and no dental? how is american insurance worse than our private insurance?

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No, we have three separate elements here:

Premium - what you pay monthly, no matter what. The cost of entry.

Deductible - is the amount you have to spend before the insurance "kicks in". For Instance, on this plan, there is $0 deductible, which is VERY rare. In this instance, you'd start paying the co-pays right away. Normally, the deductible is a large amount of money. On those plans, you pay the full negotiated cost of the service, which could be in the hundreds or thousands.

Out of pocket max - this is the total amount you have to pay before the insurance covers everything, co-pays included.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 months ago (4 children)

Does it have a separate one for pharmacy out of pocket? Or like the rare 0 deductible also 0 pharmacy

Estimted yearly costs - $32,000

fry Out of pocket max. - $5,200

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago (4 children)

Yes. Yearly is calculated as total of 12 monthly premium's + out of pocket max.

uncle ted
federal buildings

Are you thinking of McVeigh? or did teddy do a lil "fed posting" as well?

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

To feds? I thought he hit academics at universities and private research labs. TIL.

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You know you might be right. I thought he did bomb some fed building but its entirely possible I conflated the two of them in my long covid-riddled head.

Still, its a good title, so I say fuck it lets run with it.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The Unibomber and Oklahoma City Bombers were all part of the same Sovereign Citizen movement. The FBI thought they were the largest threat to national security until Bush forced them to focus on Muslim groups after 9/11.

It's part of why white supremacists have been getting away with mass shootings and whatnot for the past 25 years.
