Hey guys, what's the difference between a communist and a Bolshevik? I got a guy here implying they're different things.
Bolsheviks are one of the two successors to a split in the russian social democratic party. A party that existed in opposition to, among others, the socialist revolutionaries, a party that had previously assassinated a tsar and would later lead a revolutionary government.

(Of course, the term "social democrat" basically meant in about 1905 what "communist" means now, and I do like to tell certain types of people I have to keep peace with, that I'm a social democrat, and just not explain that I mean that in the 1900s Russian sense, not the modern Western sense.)
