There's probably going to be a non-insignificant number of people who are mad about this being "a handout" that "creates dependency" or something.

Me explaining to MFs that landowners get fucktons of handouts.

The students exist and that brings up the land value. If anything rent for on-campus housing should be dirt cheap to compensate the students for their “services”.

Capitalism punishes success. Look at California, the state which did everything right and is literally succeeding itself to death.

china is still evil even tho like 80% of young ppl own their own homes

Evil China deprives their university students of the Freedom to live out of their cars!

"Comrades, there must be something wrong- I wanted to live in a crumbling capitalist dystopia where I can barely make ends meet, my taxes are used to fund the bombing of brown children overseas, and the rights of minorities are rapidly diminished as our political parties work together to exploit the working class."

This is a demonstration of the innate Chinese bigotry towards nomadic peoples. First, a great wall to keep the steppe nomads out, now the kids can't choose to live off their 21st century horse (aka a car).

I saw one time a trend of people in China who were camping in those small cars

That's literally homelessness. Living in a car is being homeless. What do they think homelessness is?

From the other examples, so is living in a napping pod. Debatably so are living in an alumnus' house or an assisted living facility, or even the Airbnb example, depending on the precarity of the arrangement, but obviously any of those are better than being made to live in a parking lot (what about students without cars?) or a napping pod (at least you don't need to own a car for this one).

An actual solution to student homelessness? Build more student dorms and house them there.

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

But you see if we build student dorms we gotta charge like 50% more than market rent for reasons

Homelessness is being naked and starving sleeping in the middle of a national highway in winter. Any upgrade from that and you become a temporarily embarrassed landlord

landlords, to slumlords, to parkinglords

the worker has become one with the car they use

Another one for the sadly eternal banger of "literally every problem can be fixed by applying more car" politics of pretty much everywhere
