Just gonna shamelessly steal this from myself:

none of those whose misfortune it is to have slaves as attendants will visit the City if they can possibly avoid it; because by so doing they hazard their property

when slaves who are happy & content to remain with their present masters, are tampered with & seduced to leave them; when masters are taken at unawar[e]s by these practices; when a conduct of this sort begets discontent on one side and resentment on the other, & when it happens to fall on a man whose purse will not measure with that of the Society, & he looses his property for want of means to defend it—it is oppression in the latter case, & not humanity in any; because it introduces more evils than it can cure.

it being among my first wishes to see some plan adopted by which slavery in this Country may be abolished by slow, sure, & imperceptable degrees

Whoever apprehends the said Negroes, so that the Subscriber may readily get them, shall have, if taken up in this County, Forty Shillings Reward, beside what the Law allows; and if at any greater Distance, or out of the Colony, a proportionable Recompence paid them, by George Washington

A paragon of virtue. No doubt an AI trained on George Washington’s writings will produce exactly the results that Glenn Beck is looking for.

It's hilarious reading his letters where he is going iff about how the crown wants to make Americans all slaves and take away our liberty, and then in the next paragraph start raviolng how Lord Dunmore is the biggest threat to Virginia because he is encouraging all of the slaves to run away from their masters.

Truly a paragon of virtue.

Oh yeah, the "Founding Fathers" were horrible, disgusting people. George Washington hired a bounty hunter to track down a teenage female slave who ran away from his household while he was president. American history textbooks are whitewashed as hell. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ona_Judge

Although Pennsylvania was gradually abolishing slavery, members of Congress were allowed to bring enslaved staff to serve them in the capital if they did not stay longer than six months.

Lmaooo he was bringing slaves in on a temporary loophole instead of just paying people who work for him

Beyond ghoulish, somebody summon this motherfuckers ghost so we can put him on trial

The thread links a letter Paine published in a newspaper condemning Washington, which he had published in a newspaper after receiving no response:
