Disney had a great whimsical vibe back in the early days. The old tales were usually fucking grim. Both have a place to exist.
That's the thing: a story meant for little children isn't the same type of enjoyment as a story meant for adults. They are different categories, so better to be judged within their own realms, not with a one-size-fits-all metric.
He also wasn't a fan of the direction Disney took Marvel and Star Wars.

I suppose the first Hobbit film (1967, featuring Princess Mika, and the only adaptation he could have seen in his lifetime) didn't change his mind about cartoons.
It is basically a narrated slideshow completed just to fulfil the terms of a book rights contract. The producer had it cheaply and hastily drawn by one of my favorite artists/animators Adolf Born, known for his other work like Mach a Šebestová.
