Veganism is not inherently leftist because the equality of leftism only applies to humans.

There is noting wrong with compassion for animals, and I would expect every leftist to harbor some form of it for them, simply because leftism arises from compassion.

But leftism cannot apply to animals. The liberation of animals cannot arise from leftism, because animals are not sapient.

I should not have opened that link and checked out one of the threads meow-tableflip

These statements don't even really follow from each other. It's just stringing together words to justify a preexisting conclusion.

What part of "Nature is man’s inorganic body – nature, that is, insofar as it is not itself human body. Man lives on nature – means that nature is his body, with which he must remain in continuous interchange if he is not to die. That man’s physical and spiritual life is linked to nature means simply that nature is linked to itself, for man is a part of nature." Do these people not understand?

I'm not even a practicing vegan, but I understand how animal liberation exists as a link in the chain of all human activity that impacts nature.

But they are big fancy words, which according to reddit, means they must make the statement true.

The liberation of animals cannot arise from leftism

Fun fact, the mods of r/leftist are so deeply incompetent a literal nazi made it onto their team a while ago lmao

I went into a leftist subreddit recently and they were all saying the r slur, quick search shows me they also use it in that subreddit. Ableism freeze peach 👍 animal liberation 😡

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

i dunno if it has anything to do with veganism or just being a r*dditor

[–] Wmill@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

I remember making a comment recently about veganism and seeing my up vote thing saying 56 up votes but when I check it out it was at 1. I'm not one to chase engagement but yeah pretty much anything in favor of veganism gets nuked either people against it or bots most likely. For as big as reddit seems it's populated with so many damn bots

Lol that comment section is so reactionary and stupid

From OP’s comment history:

I am a leftist. I even went as far as to quit my job because I no longer wanted to contribute to capitalism and pay the amount of taxes I was paying. I was making good money as an electrical engineer, but didn't want to feed the capitalist system I was a part of. I spend my time volunteering with my local activist group, and have massively cut my expenses. Look deeper into my comment history and you'll find this to be true.

I just choose not to engage with the r/leftist sub because, as fully confirmed by this post, it's filled with virtue-signalers who would prefer to feed their egos than actually take action. They won't quit their jobs and volunteer instead. They won't bleed on the streets like I have. They can't even change their breakfast for Christ sakes.

Dude got banned for being a huge rad lib. “They won't bleed on the streets like I have.” Lol

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Must be nice to be able to just quit your job and get a completely volunteer position. I wonder what this person does for money? 🤔

(How much you want to bet this fucker is a landlord or makes dividends on stock or their parents own the "activist group" or all of the above?)

[–] CocteauChameleons@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Dude sounds so nonsensical I dunno how that shit isnt a bit lmao

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

To be as succinct as possible: it made me feel like an instant outsider when I didn’t regurgitate the approved message of the tribe. I saw what it looked like from the outside, and I finally understood where the right wing was coming from when they called the left crazy and the ones who censor.

Wow… just, wow. You are so confidently incorrect it hurts my brain. I’m starting to understand the shift towards the right wing in the USA if this is what our group really sounds like from the outside.

jagoff jagoff

This guy definitely seems to be extremely cringy, not that the leftist sub is any better.

[–] BarrelsBallot@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 week ago

I'm sure the sub sucks because it's reddit, but take one look at OP's comment history- huge radlib loser, another bad apple in the vegan bunch which is a shame but no surprise

to be fair my arab wife says it's kinda hurtful to see gaia care that much about animals while people she knows are getting slaughtered. Kinda like the germans care about gazans donkey more than children.

I know it's wrong to oppose them because as you said, human and animals oppression stems from the same place. But who am I to tell an oppressed person how to feel?

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

While it is true that the fact that some humans are so thoroughly stripped of value so as to be considered less than animals is worthy of contempt, that does not mean we should be caring about the animals less.
