The formula is make an RPG with Jennifer English playing a major character

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The other formula is to just make the game because you have an interesting story and/or an interesting mechanic rather than as a pay to play skinner box. Baldurs Gate 3 and Expedition 33 both did that. Neither had DLC or loot boxes or really anything extra you could buy other than special edition stuff. They were both made because the team had a story to tell and mechanics to explore.

AAA companies will still never learn these lessons because they don't need to because pay to play skinner boxes make them more money, but gamers can at least learn the lessons and stop expecting great AAA experiences

The 3rd formula is to make a game with 3 in the title, and the more 3s you have the more likely you are to win an award

Half-Life 3 confirmed. (But seriously whatever form it takes if it ever comes out will break the internet)

Half Life 2: Episodes Part 2, Chapter 2.

anything to avoid a half life 3

do you think gaben sold his soul to a crossroads demon and he'll collect on Half Life 3

Will it break the internet? Half Life 2 came out, what, 20-something years ago? Half Life 1 nearly 30 years ago? There’s a lot of rapidly aging Zoomers out there who have never even heard of Half Life, nevermind the gen alpha teens who consider Zelda BotW to be nostalgic and retro.

people will never enjoy it as much as they enjoy the coming out / never coming out meme at this point

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 1 points 3 days ago

It already did? Isn't Half Life Alyx the Half Life 3?

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

But how does that make the shareholders happy?

voice actors named jennifer are generally good. jennifer hale was the iconic femshep from mass effect. she was also Bastila from KOTOR and fall from grace in planescape: torment

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Jennifer Hale is on a different level, though lol. The greats from that generation ended up in everything - she was even Dynaheir in Baldur's Gate 1.

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

oh that's right too. did she do voice acting for dynaheir in bg3 too?

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Dynaheir dies off screen between Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, so she doesn't show up in 3. Hale voices another companion in 2, Mazzy, but I don't think Hale shows up in any regard in BG3.

Saw the trailer for Tides of Annihilation if it ends up being a smash hit this gives credence to the apply Jennifer English theory

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

That's the one that her gf is in, too, right?
