The EU hopes changes will make doing business easier, but campaigners fear citizens' rights are under threat. What can we expect from the EU's proposed new laws on GDPR and AI?

What is being presented as a 'technical streamlining' of EU digital laws is, in reality, an attempt to covertly dismantle Europe's strongest protections against digital threats," an open letter read.

"I can confirm 100 percent that the objective... is not to lower the high privacy standards we have for our citizens," said Thomas Regnier, EU spokesman for digital affairs.

FYI: Nothing has been decided yet. This is all about Plans that (some) EU institutions want to pass, European Parliament still needs to aprove etc. Digital Omnibus and the ammended Chat Control

However, citizens and privacyrights organisations are rightly so, very concerned, like Patrick Breyer

Wouldn't it make business even more easy if the capitalists could enslave all of us to work for free for them?

[–] random_character_a@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Just wait a bit, we'll get there.

Citizen scoring, dissident slave labour, dodging government drones on a sunny afternoon...

[–] demonsword@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

When slavery was legal, masters had to feed, clothe and house their slaves, modern capitalists don't want to do even that unless the government forces them to

Of course man. Slavery is great! We need to be competitive and everyone would love it!!!

If you're reading this from outside the US, I'd suggest lest time mocking us and more time studying the fisher price version of warning signs that your government is building infrastructure to quell civil unrest rather than moving full steam ahead toward universal basic income.

Thank you, Henry Kissinger. Your input into geopolitical workings outside Nero's burning city are noted.

Also, "outside US" means Europe. Got it.

Because there are only three places on earth. Crazy, Europe, and the place things get made.

Isn’t that in the northern part of the USA? Where the maple syrup gets made?

[–] Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maple syrup almost all gets made in Quebec. You'll need another criteria to define northern USA.

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 day ago

Fine, isn’t that where all the USA makes their Television shows? 🥰

Where did Nero live again? Also worth noting that orange mussolini and the HF are poorly copying the OG of all this. Weird take, bruv.

Where did Nero live again?

Where, indeed.

Weird take, bruv.

Says someone who responded to an article about GDPR digital rights by interjecting that Europe should stop mocking the us and forcing everyone to use UBI.

[–] tym@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

You're almost there. If and when GDPR falls to the need to stay competitive in the global markets, you'll be right behind us in the slide to enshitification of all the things. Don't waste your lead mocking the death of murica. Your doubling-down proves just how addictive hate really is.

We are very concerned about this, I keep attending my representatives about this shit and probably will have to do that for the rest of my life.

I must say, though, that I try not to mock the US as I feel about the US like your older brother got a nasty drug habit. I think most people do care about you and not a day goes by I hope the orange turd does something to give the Dems a supermajority and a chance to fix that broken election system you have.

But like brothers with drug habits it's very painful to see their decline as your remember how great they were and how they always had your back. It's hard to see there nothing you can do to stop the slomo train wreck. I get that people get frustrated about that and turn to mockery.

But I love the American people, most of you are terrific. Your culture has touched us all over here. And sometime you are very funny deserving of friendly mockery.

But that stadium is long past true loving mockery died, sarcasm and irony died. It's so seriously horrific that we can't really find words. I feel a deep sorrow and anger every time there's news about the sack of shit in office.

Love you, you bastards. I hope you kick the habit of hate and diversion and you learn to love yourselves again. You can be the greatest country in earth again, home of the brave, country of the free. You can do it!
