Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) on Monday said he will not be intimidated by the Pentagon’s investigation into “serious allegations of misconduct” against him after he called for U.S. military service members to disobey any illegal orders handed down by the Trump administration.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth earlier in the day announced the Pentagon would conduct a “thorough review” of allegations against the Arizona senator, who was one of six Democratic lawmakers who appeared in a video that infuriated the Trump administration.

Kelly, a retired Navy captain, pointed to his lengthy military career and disputed that he did anything to merit the review.

So is the message here that the government is investigating Sen Kelly because they disagree with what he said? Soldiers.... Should?.... Follow illegal orders? Are we this deep into fascism already?

[–] Weirdfish@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

Unfortunately yes. In another post someone asked "what's to stop Trump bombing Chicago?". The only real answer is American service members all the way down the chain of command disobeying the blatantly illegal order to bomb Chicago.

At the end of it all, political power really rests in who has the biggest stick, and the biggest stick in the world is the US military.

If the military is beholden to Trump, then he has his kingship, if they honor their oath to the constitution, he doesn't.

Dude is a retired Navy Captain.

He hardly needs to be told this.

Not just a Captain, but a god-damned American hero. He flew dozens of combat missions in Iraq, has the distinguished flying cross and more medals and awards than "punch bowl" Pete can even imagine. He went on to be a Navy test pilot and then to NASA as an astronaut and eventually mission commander of a space shuttle mission. Mark and his twin brother Scott,(also an astronaut) have performed important science in space and on earth, benefiting all man kind.

Okay, hear me out:

Comey, Kelley, Bolton, James, and the rest of DJT's persecuted political opponents form an anti-corruption party to rebuild and reform

There is no truer definition of "American Hero" than Mark Kelly. For the administration to go after him is wild. Media should be all over this one as a bullshit investigation, and I hope this blows up in their faces.
