256GB ought to be enough for anyone!
I run most of my games off an SD card and it's been fine.
(It seems people have not heard of the Bill Gates 640KB quote and/or my delivery is off)
And even if it is not, upgrading the ssd was really easy.
As a secondary device to play games besides my big PC, yes. But lot of people have no other PC and the Steam Deck is the only device. Given that some games come at 100gb install size, and people want to install multiple games, 256gb can be low. I use internal space for Steam games and all stuff, and have an 512gb external card just for emulators and Roms.
Hence me saying games run fine off an SD card after a reference to a quote falsely attributed to Bill Gates 😁
I highly doubt there are many people that only have a Steam Deck and not a gaming PC.
Steam deck is my only device. I have the 512 oled and am very happy with it. I know other people for whom it's their only device, I don't think it's uncommon. Obviously we have phones, but either don't need a computer or use one at work and don't want one at home. Plus the steam deck is a linux computer in a pinch.
How good is the Oled? I'm bouncing between shelling out for it over the lcd.
Honestly, I don't think there's much difference. My mate has an LCD, deck, we've put them next to each other and they're both good. Maybe the oled is a bit better in bright rooms. If price is an issue I think you'll be fine with the LCD.
Yeah, I think the lcd is on sale atm too.. >.<

It's definitely not enough, I filled it in no time. SD card works fine for me, tho.
If you're going to main your games on a steam deck, definitely go with one of the higher GB versions.
I haven't had any issues just running games off a microSD card.
Or the lowest GB version and upgrade - though the 64GB is no longer available, so I'm guessing that's less economical than it was.

64gb was the lowest they offered at launch. Though it certainly felt like 16gb without the SD card in place.
Yeah, that's what I meant. Haven't had 64GB in my deck for a long time.
Depends how many games you have on the go at once and how fast your internet is, I've never felt limited by the 256GB model
I originally bought a Steam Deck to travel with but I feel it was just too big. I recently bought an Asrock BC-250 and have it setup with Sunshine. Now I use my Retroid Pocket 5 and Moonlight. Much more of a manageable size for traveling
Only for the price of 32GB RAM.
I picked up a 64Gi LCD model a while back when it was on sale and then added my own 1TB SSD. 256Gi is enough that you hate to remove it and not use it, but also isn’t quite enough space to be practical.
My Steam Deck is a second wave pre-order 256GB modern, and that is exactly my feeling. Between the internal 256GB and the excellent Steam Deck micro SD utilization, it was good enough that I never opened it up just to change the SSD. When I started to get some stick drift, I finally upgraded the SSD at the same time.
The 256GB is "good enough", but 512GB is "enough" and 64GB is tight.
WTF are they trying to get rid of LCD stock? Is it still being manufactured?
