Chairs. You can sit on the ground or on a mat by a low table, as many people have done for centuries.

[โ€“] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 6 points 5 months ago

Yeah, agree. Tables can be used standing or while sitting in the floor. Chairs are nice, but without tables a lot of stuff would happen at floor level anyway.

Definitely easier to get by without chairs.

Maybe with your back, you young whipper-snapper. Every time I sit on the floor, I'm concerned it'll be a one way trip

[โ€“] B0rax@feddit.org 2 points 5 months ago

He did not talk about benches or couches.

OP I don't think "absolve" was the word you wanted there. "Abolish", maybe?

[โ€“] Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml 16 points 5 months ago (2 children)

No no, the chairs or tables will be absolved of duty, so like they'll still be around, taking up space, we just won't be allowed to ask anything useful of them anymore because they're retired.

[โ€“] Nemo@slrpnk.net 6 points 5 months ago

makes sense, objection withdrawn

[โ€“] Admetus@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 months ago

Fantastic, I thereby absolve chairs of their duty like most of the people here.

[โ€“] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

I'll get rid of chairs. Ottomans, which are not chairs, would be arranged around the tables for some reason. My ottomans have a vertical panel for a foot rest. It's definitely a foot rest and not a chair, though. Chairs were banned.

I need a wheelchair, so.. yeah

fuck them tables

I think chairs and tables are insufficiently different - people would end up using one as a substitute for the other. I think a more interesting question would be what if you were required to magically eliminate all perfectly level planes (tables, chairs, beds), or eliminate all slanted planes (ramps, screws, lazy boys)

Can I still have Stool, Sofa and Beanbag?

Love the way this is phrased, gonna borrow it for threats

"I will absolve your ass from the fabric of reality for the rest of time."

[โ€“] Apeman42@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You can use a chair as a table, but can't comfortably sit on most tables. QED, fuck off tables.

[โ€“] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You got that backwards. Tables are often more comfortable to sit on than chairs, but chairs make lousy tables.

[โ€“] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

A picnic bench is just a low, skinny table.

[โ€“] Nemo@slrpnk.net 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Chairs are just tables for butts.

No that's what comes out of the butt.
