Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1584 readers
124 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

It's a site rule: no ads/spamming

Most likely because you posted an SEO-related article and then a spammy looking link from https://www.nsfwyoutube.com/ in quick succession. I suspect they were both reported.

I checked the nsfwyoutube ink though, and the video is not spam. I'd say the mods probably just assumed it was dodgy given the site title, and they get 2 reports in a row about the same user in two different communities. It seems like a CLM situation to me, because the mods should ideally have checked the "spammy" link to verify that was actually the case.

Yeah but they'll ban at the drop of a hat. I've seen people banned for rule 4 who haven't made any posts and only a handful of clearly non-spam comments.

Yeah nsfwyoutube already got flagged once previously on one community... even-though they explain just under the post what it is all about : youtube without login.

could CLM explain a ban in like 30 communities, and not 10 other (on lemmy.ml) I was subscribed to? Did 30 mods just banned me on a false report? Plus some of those 30 communities, I didnt post in since days! I dont get how I can be ban for spam on communities I didnt post on

If they site ban you then the community bans are automatic. They will all expire at the same time. I suspect if you DM the mod and explain it wasn't a spam link, they will unban you.

site ban.. then why I was not banned on some of lemmy.ml communities (may be those community had no mod, I didnt check)

I have way to know the mod who did that. Plus I dont care for a community that is so trigger happy with banning.

Mistakes happen sometimes, but I get you are still mad about it.

[–] ooli3@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

not mad at all. the beauty of lemmy, is that if you dont like the behavior of a community/instance.. you dont have to stay with it, you create your own.

If an instance feel it is okay to ban for 40 day someone because of 2 post at a few minutes interval... I really dont want to post on that instance anymore. I post things I find interesting. It is more a way to archive links in the same place. If it is deleted (by error or powertrip) , it make me lose time, and my references. So i'd rather post somewhere else, where it will stay.

Thanks for your time, and the explanations

You should just post YouTube links directly as a rule. The people who don't want to use YouTube directly can stick the link into their preferred proxy themselves.

[–] ooli3@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

why? If it just to not get banned.. I really dont care about being banned

[–] turdas@suppo.fi 14 points 1 day ago

Everyone has different preferences for their YT proxies. And well, "nsfwyoutube.com" does not sound like the most reputable one.

Blocking the instance and then posting in yepowertrippinbastards paints a different story. But time moves on, so good that it's behind you now.

Oh it is my general policy... if a community delete one of my post, I block it. As I said, I will not waste my time (and that community time) on a community that dont want my posts. Here we are so far: (most of them, are just subjects I dont care about to be honest)

Huh, I might have to retract that last part. For someone who doesn't care about bans, you surely do care a lot about bans (and apparently get a lot of your posts deleted)...

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

Looking at the modlog ooli3 has not had many posts removed.

[–] ooli3@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

you're right. I care in the sense, that i dont want to have my post deleted by some mod that assume things without checking (like me spamming in that case). And no, delete are pretty rare. Last one was 2 month ago (as seen as the bottom of the pic), and I post like 5-10 links /day

[–] ekky@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

Right, my bad. A ban/delete every two months seems like a lot, but I didn't consider how much you post, which gives a better perspective.

And yes, it would appear that the mod was either lazy, or didn't want to click a potentially malicious link. Most likely the former, though.
